Barley's Taproom

Barley's is one of the oldest established eateries in downtown Asheville. When Asheville was a ghost town 14 years ago, Barley's was a high spot and welcome. Good food, a tremendous beer selection, but the acoustics are absolutely the worst. You have yell to be heard in busy times. If you're looking for a quiet night out, this isn't the spot, but if you want gregarious fun, a big beer selection, and good tucker, this is the place. more

Barley's opened several years ago and became one of the anchor businesses for the remarkable renovation of downtown Asheville. Pizza can be ordered by the pie or slice. Other pub food fare is available. It's all hearty, wholesome enough, and you get your money's worth. The bar is the star - it runs a good 2/3rd's of the way down the main hall. The tap selection is wide and varied, and the bartenders are always willing to give you a sample. There's only one down side - the noise is deafening. It's difficult to talk above a low roar to be heard, especially in the evenings and night. Crowds can also be a problem on weekends and holidays. Barleys is centrally located downtown, so it's a tourista stop too. There's a designated smoking floor up a long flight of stairs. There are several pool tables to choose from and seperate bar (smaller than the one downstairs). Barley's can be truly great for a mid-day lunch or after hours for those that work evenings. The vibe is quiter, and you pretty much have the place to yourself. more

Every year when we come to Asheville, my family and I always make a stop at Barley's.They have a wide and varied selection of beers on tap from both local breweries and international powerhouses. The waitresses are knowledable about the beers, so they're happy to recommend something appropriate for everyone in your party. Kids are ok, too - they'll love the pizzas! Their pizzas are very inventive, mixing ingredients such as sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese, as well as the standard pepporoni fare. There is also more private bar seating upstairs for grown-ups. Great service, delicious food, and good brews! more
