My neighbor and I contracted with Bob at Barkdusters for a delivery of Compost to be delivered to both our residences. My neighbor had been a return customer of Barkdusters for four years and knew exactly how much compost was necessary for her yard. I have put compost down in my yard and knew exactly how much I would need also. Because we were combining our order we were told that we would be getting a deal. We were quoted a price of $ 269.00 per unit with the understanding that I would need 1/2 a unit and my neighbor would need 1 unit based on our past experience. We confirmed our order and requirements with Bob as we were on speaker phone with him.
The day of delivery the compost was laid per contract. The workers were very good and cleaned up any mess. When it came to paying the bill, I was surprised at the cost. I was being charged a greater amount then what had been quoted. I told the driver this and he put me in contact with Bob. Bob said that I had misunderstood and that in order to get the agreed upon price, the entire 2 units needed to be used. I had previously reiterated to Bob that I only needed 1/2 a unit at the time of the order (which was witnessed by my neighbor who was receiving the other portion of the delivery). We were now being charged $319.00 a unit (which was his normal price). As a result we received no deal. Times are tough and word of mouth is everything. This is bad business and Barkdusters has lost a return customer ( of 4 years) and a new customer. I will be spreading the word to my neighbors, two of whom were potential customers. Buyer beware - get everything in writing.
