Plenty of parents wait to choose a name until their kid is actually born, so why does it always come as such a shock when restaurants change their concept after a few months of being open? Bar Artisanal recently underwent a transformation from quasi-bistro with an emphasis on cheese (a concept that’s still working well in the Murray Hill location) to a Spanish restaurant and tapas bar, complete with wrought iron accents that make the stately dining area look like a Gothic cathedral. There’s plenty to worship on the menu, including modern and classic tapas (liquid foie gras and salt cod croquetas, respectively), as well as a wide selection of cured meats and cheeses, and entrees like paella and bean stew with blood sausage.
