I've been looking forward to trying Bamboo Sushi ever since I first learned that a sustainable sushi restaurant was opening in Portland. We finally made it, and just in time. The happy hour brings a big crowd, and the dinner crowd is even larger. \r
We were quickly seated, and had excellent service. We did not drink any of the very delicious looking cocktails, so I can't speak for the bar menu. It's nice to get free edamame, it's quite rare in a Japanese restaurant to get anything for free. However, the miso was quite salty, so much so that we had trouble even eating it. Honestly, miso is pretty darn easy to make, so that was not a good sign. \r
The sushi arrived, and the portions were very small, but also very beautiful. The veggie rolls are the best value, and quite interesting too. The fish sushi was alas, disappointing. We ordered some of the sustainable varieties, and they were tiny (which was o.k.) but the taste just wasn't there. Some of the rolls were actually kind of sour tasting, not a good sign.\r
We'll try this place again, but on a different day of the week.\r

In the meantime, we'll go back to Kappaya, whose sushi truly is spectacular & has never left me wanting.\r
Pros: sustainable fish & good service
Cons: underwhelming quality & overly salty miso
