Best

There are no words to describe the events that occur at Bagatelle's famous brunches besides... EPIC. The food is amazing, the servers are awesome and the music is the best in the ...

Worst

RUDE servers, empty drinks, huge bill Cons: beyond horrible service can totally ruin a dining experience

SHAME ON THIS DISGUSTING PLACE! 9/12/2008

I will NEVER go back to BAGATELLE again. My friends and I had made a 7:30pm reservation for 5 on a thursday night to celebrate a friends birthday. Consider us a nice great looking group of girls. When I first walked in to the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of Euro Trash lingering around the restaurant. Of course we got seated next to a group of rowdy, obnoxious little boys who thought they were too cool for words. We were stuck at a table in a corner that was right next to the side of the bar that the waiters use to transfer over drinks. I think i may have counted that it was around 10x that I got knocked in the head, face or some other part of my body by several waiters. Wait...it gets better. After finishing what I thought to be the most VILE MEAL I have ever eaten, we received our bill and paid it with no complaints. We continued to sit and enjoy our company before the host of the restaurant came over to us and asked us to leave because he had another party to seat. We proceeded to tell him that we were entitled to continue sitting there as there was no time limit on our reservation when we made it, not to mention we were no where near ready to leave as we had still intended on ordering more drinks. Before we knew it, our waiter told us that if we didnt leave he would call the owner..so we told him to do so. You would think that an owner of a restaurant would be kind and accomodating?? NOT. The owner of the restaurant came over to us and said "Ladies, Im sorry we asked to talk your chairs but now Im taking your F------ table" and literally pulled the table away to another space and left us sitting in our seats. We were baffled, mortified, but most of all disgusted. His name was AYMERIC CLEMENTE and was the most disgusting human being I have ever seen. Shame on him and this nasty place for their crappy food and service, not to mention ettiquite. more

Expensive scene but not unique 9/4/2008

Bagatelle for dinner has good energy and a typical crowd mix for an expensive scene restaurant. It doesn't do anything badly, but is not memorable by itself. I have eaten that menu in a similar room in 50 places in NYC. There is no reason not to go, but there is no reason to go back. A $17 mojito and a wine list that starts at $85 and gets drinkable at $125 must live up to a high standard. It's in a cool location but the competition is fierce and I didn't find a hook. Pros: location, crowd Cons: price, not unique, tight tables more

Great food, Great Service, Fun Brunch 8/17/2008

Love, Love, Love this place, great food, great service and unforgettable crazy fun Saturday Brunch. more

Great for Brunch-Consistently Excels 7/21/2008

Once again Bagatelle gets pushed to the front of my list. This weekend I was there twice! On Sunday, I was searching for a place to avoid the crowds, have a civilized dining experience without the pretense of snooty faces and smug looks. I was in the area and passed by to see what was up on their brunch menu. The weather was crazy hot, but not Bagatelle (most French bistros are humid and have no breeze.) It is designed smart, with large foldout open doors giving sufficient circulation, and natural light. The menu was simple, classic French fare (we had Nicois salad and smoked salmon). Dario, server was familiar and witty. Highly suggest sitting in his section if you can. I would recommend hitting them up for brunch if you want to have a great lunch, see the meatpacking district, and avoid drama. I went there again last night. So many things to say, but to avoid redundancy, the most appreciated was their personal attention and their security of my items. I checked in a briefcase and computer, and then went to the bar. We sat for a while waiting for friends to arrive, and then were seated near the back. It was a good table with a view. The maitre d' saw that our party grew one more than the reservation and offered to move us to a more central table where we would be more comfortable. (I was shocked! This is unheard of when a restaurant is packed, not to mention it will take more time to clean and set up the table where we were sitting.) We didn't move, but appreciated the personal attention. We finished the great food, and left. As I sat in the cab, I realized that I had forgotten my items from coat check. I called; they offered to stay until I returned for them. I opted out and went to pick them up this morning. Not only did they have them to me promptly, but they had moved them to their offices to keep them safe. (That, to me, is perfect service above and beyond!) Thanks Bagatelle, I will definitely be back for more! Pros: atmosphere, clientelle, celeb sightings, consistent more

Waste of Money 7/1/2008

$17 for drinks that the bartenders don't know how to make. The place WILL be the next restaurant closing - seated promptly, took 40 minutes to get our cocktails and then 3 of them had to be sent back. Food very mediocre at best. Great people watching. Beautiful restaurant aesthetically, that's the only plus. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food, Drinks, Service, Cost of Drinks more

GREAT PLACE 5/23/2008

SERIOUSLY THE FOOD IS AS AMAZING AS THE SCENE...AND SOME PEOPLE WILL NEVER GET IT...THAT GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE CAN BE APPRECIATED IN A FUN ENVIRONMENT... more

Very poor service by management - if you're used to the professional service of great ny restaurants, this place is not for you. 5/2/2008

To be fair, I cannot rate the food since I did not end up trying it. The service was truly awful and the managers and hosts did not know what they were doing. Very not service-oriented place. If you are used to professional and courteous service at top nyc restaurants, this place is not for you. We became very frustrated by their treatment and our group chose to leave and was happy we did so. Management, take note: change your tactics, pay attention to your guests or else they will not be returning back to you. more

wow! this place is crazy! i love it! 3/28/2008

I had dinner there last night..... Very fun! I really like it.... the only thing is... the servers forget they are working in a restaurant... and are more worry about the drinks for the big parties... instead my food order or ask me if i want something to drink....or maybe water for the table to start...u know... restaurant rules... i guess is because they make more money with the big parties... Is a fun restaurant.... I hope they work a little in the service.... Pros: ambience Cons: service more

Excellent Food and atmosphere 2/11/2008

Great food, great atmosphere. Had a wonderful dinner with my girlfriends. My friend said her filet mignon was one of the best steaks she ever had, and I had the salmon which melted in my mouth. And the staff was very attentive. No cons, would definitely go back! more

Jet-setter meeting point 2/6/2008

A great French Classic restaurant with the Hollywood Glamour, Bagatelle is one of the best places I visited in a long time. New York presents diners with various locations for exquisite service, unique food, unsurpassed service and flamboyant ambiance. Bagatelle manages to have them all under one roof. The menu deserves a praise for the owners careful selection of brasserie food and electing the right chef to execute it ?comme il faut?. I certainly will include Bagatelle to my list with Cipriani, La Goulue, Nello and the likes. Pros: Ambiance, food, music and people watching Cons: noe more

Authentic French cuisine in the Meatpacking District

Owner Message
  • Bringing a taste of the South of France to the Meatpacking District, Bagatelle mixes simplicity with sophistication in the form of a neighborhood bistro where comfort is key. Hailing from France, co-owners Remi Laba and Aymeric Clemente have created a restaurant that is wholly European in atmosphere and cuisine. Executive Chef Nicolas Cantrel serves a menu that evokes a Provencal brasserie with some unexpected touches.

Upon entering Bagatelle, diners will feel they have been transported to the South of France, where patrons sit for hours over a plat du jour and a carafe of wine while enjoying the comfort and ease of their surroundings. As soon as the menus are delivered to the table, Cantrel's passion is immediately evident as guests discover a variety of dishes that have a unique spin on French classics. Bagatelle also offers al fresco dining on their outdoor patio.

Editorial
  • Nicolas Cantrel, the Ducasse-trained chef formerly of Bobo, takes dead aim at the ‘60s-smitten Francophile set with Bagatelle, a tiny Meatpacking District eatery that looks lifted straight from a Jean-Luc Godard set. Frosted with swathes of Rococo wooden molding and dangling chandeliers, the restaurant is French right down to its owners, all the best for luring away some of the crowd from nearby Pastis. Snuggle into a half-moon booth under the aegis of a gigantic Marilyn print and tuck into anything from the super-Gallic menu--steak au poivre, tuna tartare or ratatouille--while debating the best moment from “Breathless.”
