Best

We just completed reading the negative reviews that were posted. Are you people here living on earth? Do you have no dining sense at all? Let me tell you about Mario's place, Babb...

Worst

Bustling Bar when you first enter is the attempt to be cool and seen (yawn). The food isn't special and it's over priced. LUPA is the restaurant to go for special italian food, no...

Not so sure... 9/28/2005

After waiting a month to get a reservation at this place, we were looking forward to enjoying this place. Babbo has gotten rave reviews forever, so we expected nothing less than wonderful. Our experience was not as expected, however, as first the waiter tried to seat us downstairs. After waiting longer, we finally got the table we wanted upstairs. The food was just okay... nothing to write home about. Dessert was really the best part of the night; the chocolate praline cake was the best thing I ever tried. But overall, not worth the wait, the money and the calories. more

Dreams are Realized 9/20/2005

As a huge Mario fan (Molto Mario is sheer Food Network brilliance), you can imagine my excitement once my necessary one-month-prior reservation was secured. The experience was worth the wait, as was the food. (6 course tasting menu) The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the service is a little too fancy. I'm all for getting good service, but the hovering got to be a bit much. more

Editorial
  • Babbo sits in a charming two-level Waverly Place townhouse near Washington Square Park. The room is decorated with warm yellow walls, glowing sconces, heavy mirrors and tan banquettes--all contributing to the restaurant's spare, modern elegance. A small, festive bar sits near the entrance, along with a handful of tables set aside for patrons without reservations. The over-the-top Italian food isn't for the faint of heart. Nor is the extensive wine list, although luckily you can count on a knowledgeable sommelier on staff to translate. Expect explosive flavors.
