I loved this restaurant!!! I got the Swamp Thang dish with shrimp, scallops and craw fish, with a Dijon sauce and collard greens! Barbra the owner was actually in the restaurant eating and after her dinner came over to see if we were doing okay! Get music and great atmosphere! Excellent food! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!! Delicious!! more

Disappointing 4/6/2009

i was totally disappointed. i ordered the seafood omelet. the menu stated that it included shrimp, crabs and lobster. the only seafood in the dish was the shrimp. the eggs were dry and it taste bland. i ate 1/16 of the plate. when i told the server that i didn't care for my brunch. he said i could get the desert free... he charged me for the desert and refuse to take it off the bill. the service was terrible. the server never came back to ask us ""if we ok or needed anything else"". we ordered our food and waited for 45 mins. SO VERY DISAPPOINTING and i love B. Smith. she's wonderful Pros: decor Cons: overpriced more

Great Place 11/27/2008

My favorite place in the city. A restaurant that actually makes you feel comfortable and unrushed; a spacious and tasteful room. The menu concentrates on food made with local, organic, and sustainable ingredients. Expertly prepared dishes that satisfy everytime. Also, a great place for drink. Pricey but worth it; a good destination restaurant, too. more

An Awesome experience 10/13/2008

I have been to B Smiths quite a few times and I have never been disappointed. I most recently had my bridal shower at B Smiths and my ladies and I had a fabulous time. I always order the Fried Chicken with the Mac n Cheese and it is simply delicious. The food was fresh, hot and we all completely enjoyed ourselves. The drinks were out of this world. I had countless Creme Brulee Martinis...Slammin is all I can say. To top my nite off, B Smith was in the restaurant and sat down with us for part of my celebration and took pictures with us. It was one of the best nites in my life. Thank You B Smith. I will be coming again and again and again... more

bad customer service 4/9/2008

went to b smiths sunday for brunch. had lobster roll and friend had the vegtable frittata which was suppose to have cheese. there was no cheese and because of that frittatta was bland. told the waiter. I didnt expect anything grand but a cup of coffee on the house would have been nice. They gave us 1 dollar off...in my opinion why bother. Made the poor apolegetic waiter come over because mgt could care less. Never will go there again. Pros: nice atmosphere and waiter Cons: bad mgt customer service more

Don't be confused by the B...It should be called D. Smith! 2/17/2008

PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE! The overall experience I give a D. My husband and I are from NC and were very excited to go try B. Smith's restaurant. However because we did not have a reservation we got put in the NO RESERVATION So We could CARE LESS ABOUT THEM Section! The service was terrible. We came second to whoever had a reservation on the second Floor! THE FOOD IS WAYYYYYYYYYY OVER PRICED to say the least! For it to be a Soul Food establishment i was Very disappointed in the SEASONING of the food! It lacked Seasoning and Taste! \r \r Please do not try the Fried Green Tomatoes they were hard and unseasoned. The Caesar Salad looked and tasted like it was 2 weeks old. The Penne Pasta lacked sauce and Taste. If you do choose to eat here ORDER the Southern Chicken and Unless you have a Baby you want to feed SUBSTITUTE the Sweet Potatoes!! \r \r If you would like to pay 10x the regular price for Beautiful Presentation with No Taste....Visit B. Smith Pros: Food is Warm Cons: Everything Else! more

I was really dissapointed with the food. The Catfish was tastless and the corn bread was rock hard. I must admit the service was good, but the food was not worth the price.\r more

B.Smith's Rocks 6/26/2007

Wow! We had a great time at B.Smith's. When we walked in we were greeted very warmly by the host staff. We were promptly seated. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The service was exceptional and the manager was very outgoing and friendly and stopped by our table on two seperate occasions and even sang with the staff wishing me a happy birthday. I will definitely be back! Pros: Excellent Chicken Wings, Catfish, Steak, Mashed Potatoes Cons: None Really more

VERY DISAPPOINTING 5/29/2007

I was very disappointed when a friend and I visited B Smith's Resturant in NYC. This was the place that I decided to celebrate my birthday and I was very disapointed - I would have rather had a McDonald's happy meal. We ordered two orders of the same thing - Southern Fried Chicken w/Carmelized Sweet Potatoes and Collard Greens w/one side of Macaroni and Cheese. DISGUSTING is putting it mildly - the chicken didn't taste fresh, the candid yams tasted and looked like baby food, and the collard greens were one big leaf - the presentation was beauitul for display the food was simply NASTY. There must have been a more importatnt party going on upstairs because this is where the hostess along w/several members of the wait staff was. The wait staff was okay - the best part of my meal was the $10 seafood soup and the $6 fruit juice, but everything else was disgusting. The next time I want soul food I will just visit the neighborhood soul food spot. more

Overcooked and Over Priced !!! 2/22/2007

B. Smith's is not worth the money. I ordered a simple sirloin steak cooked medium, and got a tough beyond well-done slab of meat, i think. The seating was very intimate, but not in a good way. You sit very close to the table next to you. The mac and cheese was like elbow noodles and butter. This place is a mess. Much better places to eat in Manhattan than B. Smith's. I recommend the top of the Mandarin. Pros: location to theatre district and Times Square Cons: Bad food, high price, mediocre service more

Disappointing experience. 11/23/2006

Just got back from B. Smith?s Thanksgiving offering. The place was buzzing and all the 6:00 reservations seemed to arrive at the same time. My niece & I were seated promptly enough, and as neither of us are fans of turkey, we opted for other selections from the Thanksgiving menu. I asked for a sparkling wine and she, one of the non-alcoholic punches. I received a very sweet white wine and she got something poured out of a Tropicana carton. We both had a good laugh about it. \r However, when I pointed out to our waiter that I asked for a sparkling wine, he announced that what they had was not sold ?by the glass.? From there, things got progressively worse. When my niece ordered the black eyed pea soup, the waiter felt he had to mention that it was indeed a soup, to which she replied ?I know.? I ordered the lamb, but received a cut of beef covered in the advertised sauce (but no mint jelly) and with the listed sides. I pointed this out to our waiter as well, and he very politely apologized and explained that things were pretty hectic in the kitchen. There was no effort made to rectify the situation as I just had them take the plates away. \r It strikes me as a place that cuts a lot of corners?from the drinks, to the entrees, to the desserts. Even though this was the prix fix menu, with everything probably pre-made in the back, I couldn?t help but feel like I was being patronized. B. Smith?s husband, Mr. Gasby was charming enough, even stopping by to engage us in light conversation, but the staff really made us feel like we were just taking up table space. The bussing staff began changing the linens before we were ready to leave. And it wasn?t like there was a line outside the door. This place leaves a lot to be desired when things are ?hectic,? which I?m not surprised, is not very often. My advice is to go with your pals (or alone at those prices) before inviting out-of-towners, and see if you would recommend it. \r Pros: The husband's greeting is welcome and appreciated. Cons: Some of the waitstaff can be condescending more

FOOD WAS TASTELESS 5/21/2006

I made a reservation and expressed that it was my wedding anniversary. I received no acknowledgement of such. Besides my lobster tail was bland. Overall we both said the food was not what we expected. Cons: expensive more

Sleeper...should be sleeping with the fishes 5/4/2006

Everything at this place was a turn off. Starting with the lousy know-it-all, talking behind our backs-so we could hear, totally unaccomodating waitress...to the sparing salads to the VERY pompous, sarcastic, and even more unaccomodating manager, this place just STANK! Go here if you want to join the snobbery. It was a major dissapointment for our family who had finally found time to get together, and were greeted by absolutely disgusting food and ambiance. At least the theatre was good that night... Cons: POOR SERVICE, small portions more

Excellent food 2/1/2006

I went to B. Smith's in October 2004 with a mid sized group. The food was excellent, the service was good, and B. Smith's husband was present came to the table to welcome us and offered complementary champange. A very romantic place!! Would be excellent for couples, but I plan to visit again when I'm in New York. more

It was Just OK 11/8/2005

Arrived early, sat at the bar, the drinks were weak. Apps were good, the spicy chicken wings were tasty. I felt the menu was limited and a bit pricy for what was offered. more

Wonderful 10/6/2005

We went for lunch and had the most wonderful catfish. The service was as elegant as the decor. I thought B. Smiths a very special restaurant. I must check out the Sag Harbor restaurant. more

It's ok 6/27/2005

We went to B. Smith's last Friday night for dinner for the first time. Overall it was nice, a little more expensive than I anticipated, but the food was good. Gotta try the shrimp scampi in mango sauce with the blackeye peas. Yummy!!!! Drinks were ok. It's a little loud and parking in that area is tough especially on the weekend. Smaller than it looks on the website, but the live band is good. Pros: Food, Live music Cons: Expensive, Bad parking more

KLD 4/1/2005

The food was good, not great. However, the crab cakes are excellent The decor is inviting. A great spot for a romantic dinner. more
