Mina for facials 2/21/2010

mina at azure day spa & laser center has been doing my facials for a couple of years now and i won't see anyone else. mina is extremely knowledgeable and takes a genuine interest in your skin's health, all the while making the experience relaxing. my skin has had it's up and downs and mina has always helped me through and has made great product recommendations. she does not simply recommend the most expensive products and will help build a skincare regimen to fit any budget. i go to mina both for my skin's well-being as well as to relax so it's truly a worthwhile experience worth every penny! Pros: professional, relaxing, great results Cons: none more

Terrible Experience 2/19/2010

I would avoid this place at all costs. I also had a 75 minute Swedish massage using a groupon. Have had excellent experiences with the other massages through Groupon and get massages on a regular basis. With that in mind, my masseuse showed up late to the appointment--not a problem if everything else was ok. I asked him to concentrate on a certain area, he thought I said my scalp when I said my scapula and he said he doesn't do head massage. I clarified that I said my scapula and shoulder and he said that that was a deep-tissue massage and I paid for a Swedish massage. I left it alone and decided just to enjoy my "Swedish" massage for 75 minutes. Well, my 75 minute massage ended after one hour--no work on the head, neck hands or feet. This combined with his lateness and the refusal to concentrate on a certain area, even with "swedish" technique, no work on the hands, feet, head or neck and the numerous other bad experiences as posted on this and other boards should make anyone avoid this place at all costs. Pros: none Cons: cut short on time more

Terrible experience - my worst ever! 2/8/2010

N-E-V-E-R go here! I have never experienced such poor, rude, disrespectful behavior from any establishment, let alone a spa which is supposed to be a place you can go to for a serene, relaxing time! I purchased 4 groupons and booked an evening at this spa for me and my family. Unfortunately my mother in law fell ill and I had to attempt to cancel our appointment. I was told that there was nothing that can be done and that if we didn?t show up at the appointment our Groupon would be automatically voided and we?d lose our money (apparently Azure spa has a more sophisticated system than hospitals and the New York Stock Exchange?and yes, I work in technology so needless to say I was not pleased with being lied to). We were told we could not cancel so we all trudged into the city for our appointment. When I walked in, the lady at the front desk insisted that she felt we wouldn?t show up to our appointment so she sent our masseuse home! When we spoke with the manager we were told things like ? ?you shouldn?t have called and confused the matter? (we shouldn?t have called to ask a question???), ?the masseuse is not here and I can?t do anything about it, so you should leave? (meaning we should accept that our money has been forfeited and we should walk out), ?you are really getting on my nerves? (when we showed that we were upset with the situation, ?I must believe my staff, not you, because I don?t know you? (when I insisted that I didn?t cancel, purely because I was not ALLOWED to cancel). When asked why she didn?t confirm with me before assuming that we weren?t going to show up she had no logical answer and instead went on a shouting rampage with me about how she?s sick and tired of these Groupon customers coming in here and only tipping the masseuses $5 and complaining about every little thing?. Uhm, yea, that?s all good and well, but how about you answer my question? Oh, and then the kicker - when we asked her why she put her masseuse before her client she responded by saying ?my masseuse brings me money, you don?t?. All in all, I never knew a manager could behave in such an unprofessional, uncouth way. Because she runs a boutique spa she took it upon herself to take advantage of the situation as there was no management team we could escalate this to. She had no problem stealing the pre-paid money that we had spent on our massages and treating us like we are dirty, cheap, lying women. There are a million spas in the city, and to be frank you can get a superb massage for under $140 (Azures going rate) in the city. I don?t see why anyone would waste their time with an establishment that has no shame or class and will happily cancel an appointment without confirming with you and then refuse to apologize or compensate you in some way. For the sake of your own time and sanity, pick another spa that actually has good reviews! Cons: rude staff, rowdy manager, unwilling to cooperate more

BIG MISTAKE!! 2/8/2010

mn1952 Provided by Partner
WARNING: Do NOT go to this place!! I had truly the worst spa experience of my life here yesterday. Let me preface by saying that this is the first negative I have EVER written about any place- spas, restaurants, anything. Yes, it was THAT bad! I bought 4 Groupon coupons for this spa, which were 75m Swedish massages- they were for myself, my mother, my sister in law and her mother, for a "girls night out." However, over the wkend my mother fell ill and we tried to cancel- at which point the receptionist told us that we could not cancel and that we would forfeit the coupons by not showing up- since they now have a 48 hr cancellation policy (we thought it was 24hrs.) After discussing it, the 4 of us decided the best thing to do was to go through with the plan, thereby having my mother come in from Long Island. However, when we showed up for our appts, the rude receptionist told us that she had ASSUMED we wanted to cancel and so she went ahead and told the masseuses not to come!! At this point, we were very upset and asked to speak to the manager, SARAH- one of the RUDEST people I have dealt with, who could not care less about our situation. She yelled at us and said "I trust my staff more than you, because they bring me the money." That is the bare bones of this story, there is much more that went on from there- from rude people and unbelievable service... but I wanted to get the gist of it out- AZURE is a HORRIBLE place, with heartless people, and I implore you not to waste your time I understand that not everyone will have this experience, but then you should at least know the type of people you are willing to give your money too. Spas are a dime a dozen in NYC- find a new one. **if you want more details on ALL that we went though, just contact me, i'd be glad to save you from this place! Pros: nice looking Cons: too much to tell...pls read review more

from the reviews, i was hopeful. but in attempting to schedule and go through a small laser vein treatment, i have been so disapointment with azure... they lost my appointment twice, gave me the wrong price and information about the treatment when i went for my "free consult", told me i could have a discount if i paid cash but couldn't tell me how much that would be (so how am i supposed to know how much "cash" to bring to my appointment?!), and left me in the waiting room for 1/2 hour into my appointment... not great service if you're paying upwards of $300-400 per treatment... Pros: good range of services Cons: disorganized, staff not knowledgeable more

Worst Customer Service Experience Ever 1/11/2010

briega Provided by Partner
Please be warned that the majority of services are not be available to people using gift certificates. I was unable to book the massage I requested after being told by the Manager that the certificate only applied to their "signature massage." When I pointed out that the certificate had no such qualification - only a dollar amount -- the Manager began yelling that she was the one who signed them and didn't have to explain herself to me and then hung up. Seriously -- I could not have made this up. In a city with as many lovely spas as NYC, this one is not worth the time. more

Okay Massage, Not a Great "Spa" 12/5/2009

sag1125 Provided by Partner
I wouldn't really call Azure a spa. There is one bathroom that someone can change in or freshen up in, no locker room and no showers. I recently had a 75 minute massage that I got through a Groupon. I paid around $50 and when I check out, I asked how much the actual price would have been and was told $140. I would have really been annoyed had I actually paid that much. The massage table was old and had old and nubby towels covering it. There was no padding or inserts used to adjust my knees or lower back. The music the masseuse had playing was terrible! Way too loud and not really appropriate for a massage. He didn't ask if I liked it or if it was relaxing. I asked him to lower it and choose something more relaxing. He did, but it only lasted for one song and gradually got louder and worse. I knew I was not going to be relaxed or thoroughly enjoy the massage. His technique was satisfactory, but nothing to rave about. That, coupled with the poor environment, is my reason for not going back. more

Just OK 11/22/2009

the massage itself was pretty good. However, I waited until 30 min after my appointment time before they could start on my massage. The day before my appt they called me to move my appt back on hour, then later that day called me back to put it back to the original time. Then they were 30 min late anyway. I made my appt originally weeks in advance. The rooms they massage you in are tiny and there is no where to put your stuff except one hook on the back of the door. There is one small restroom in the spa. the massage table was pretty "creaky" and made noise during the massage. Too bad, because as I said, the guy who massaged me did a pretty good job. Oh, normally before they give a female a male to do the massage, don't they ask the female if that's OK with them? They didn't ask. It was OK, don't know if I would return or recommend this place to a friend. Pros: pretty good massage Cons: very small rooms, unorganized scheduling more

great place for laser hair removal 11/13/2009

I have had several sessions of laser hair removal done on my body and the hair has vanished for ever.I first started to go to azure about 14 years ago.I use to have electroylsis done on my upper legs. Then when they started to do laser hair removal back in 1996 or 1997 (i am not sure exactly what year, it was so long ago) they had managed to convice me to switch to laser. It was not easy for me to make my mind up because it was extremely expensive at that time. But i am so happy since it is now over 11 or 12 years that i am hair free all over my body. Pros: getting rid of the hair for good Cons: i can never get an appointment the same day that i call more

When I went to this place for laser removal, their warm welcome and excellent customer service impressed me right of way. In addition, the consultant clearly explained the pros and cons involving laser hair removal. It was excellent experience for me. I started going to this place from 2007, since then I never had to give it a second thought. I highly recommend Azure for anyone who is looking for friendly professional environment and excellent customer service. Pros: Laser hair removal is highly effective Cons: None more

Nice massage! 11/7/2009

The spa provided a very nice tranquil environment. As soon as you walk in you feel the calmness and the decor of the spa is very relaxing. The staff were all very polite. You wait for your treatment in a small waiting room and I did not have to wait long for my treatment. The massage room itself was small but sufficient. The only negative thing was that there is no locker room in the spa, so you would change out of your clothes in the treatment room. The massage itself was very relaxing, the masseuse was strong and showed good technique. The masseuse worked on my back, arms, and legs. I felt that overall, the massage was great, and the experience was relaxing. If this spa has another special, I would definitely return. Pros: nice staff, good massage, nice looking spa Cons: no locker room more

I'm a Black American woman i have chocolate brown complexion. The so-called 'skin specialist' applied a peel to my entire face without really examining it. She applied 3 peels to my face within 6 week now my entire face looks really 2 toned. It looks worst. I spend close to a thousand dollars to look worst. I regret ever going there. They clearly don't know what they r doing. Please avoid this place my black sisters i wish i was warned before. Now i'm soo depress. more

Avoid! 10/26/2009

Bill Randle Provided by Partner
Anyone who appreciates a decent massage will be utterly disappointed with Azure. 1) The actual massage rooms are so small there's no chair on which to put your clothes. 2) The therapist didn't check with me to make sure the light or music were acceptable. 3) There is no room at the end of the table for the massage therapist to reach your feet, so don?t expect to have your feet touched. 4) The therapists don't use bolsters for your knees or feet, and there are no eye pillows or masks for when you flip onto your back. 5) The therapist was fine at generalized ?rubbing? but I got the sense she didn't have much idea about what was underneath my skin. Her strokes were vague and didn?t target specific muscle groups. 6) Most of what my therapist did in terms of strokes wasn?t symmetrical. So she made certain moves on one side of my body that weren?t replicated on the other. 7) I told the therapist that I had a pain in my lower right back but she only spent an extra 15 second there. 8) The therapist didn?t touch my head or face once. 9) The therapist sniffled throughout the session and I thought I felt a drip on my back at one point. I hope I was mistaken. 10) The therapist never asked how anything was until we got to the end, and then she said, ?Are you feeling relaxed?? 11) I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the person out front and he was entirely unconcerned. I told him that the head and feet were important areas of the body to miss and he simply said they concentrate on the back and let me walk out feeling dissatisfied. I?ve had hundreds of massages in my life and this is at or near the bottom. I should have been suspicious when I noticed the advertisement on the wall for Botox. Don?t waste your money, folks, they?re going to be out of business in six months. Pros: Ambiance is acceptable Cons: Everything else more

Worst Massage 10/13/2009

I just had a 75-minute massge at Azure last week. Where do I begin with how awful it was? -The masseuse did not intorudce himself to me. He just told me to get undressed and lay under the covers. Not a single question about areas that I wanted him to concentrate on, areas that he should stay away from, how much pressure I wanted - nothing. -When he came back into the room he just immediatley started working on my back - he left the harsh, bright lights on. -He coughed and cleared his throat throughout the massage. -He checked his cell phone and TEXTED with one hand while massaging with the other. Nice. -His technique was dull and careless. -The background music was full of skips and jumps. Basically, the whole experience sucked. I will not be back nor do I reccommend it at all. Pros: Convenient Location more

As a Columbia university student, I have been looking for a while now for a decent, well priced, effective skin hair removal site so that I dont have to shave every few days. Azure went above and beyond all my expectations. It seems like each time I go in, there's a new technological device that does something new and futuristic. I personally go every month to get my facial hair removed (as embarrassing as that sounds). I use Dr. Zak (I think thats how it's spelled) and couldn't be more pleased with his work. I 'd definitely recommend him to anybody! Pros: Professional Hair Removal, Best customer service more

My skin was covered with dark spots and sun damage which caused me to look unhealthy. Since I have had a really bad skin, I went to the Azure day spa & laser center to get laser treatments. It was recommended by one of my friends. I go for treatments every 2-3 weeks. They do wonders with my skin. It?s amazing, after a couple of sessions my skin looks healthier and I look more self-confident then ever. Technology has done what years of topical ointments couldn?t. more
