i have to say if this was my first time i would have said heck no i am not going back. The calamari and fries appetizer had hair in it, The acting manager claimed it was from burlap sack and acted like she could care less""burlap sack on calamari ????"" My wife and i split the steak sandwich and her half was pretty much all fat and grease. We have been going there for over a year and i got to say that management now a days is going down the drain. I work for a department store and some times have to do manager duties but i care about it. Then we decided to have desert the chocolate and peanut butter gellato and a piece of baklava and wouldn't you know it they didn't have either one. So we settled for the Bavarian chocolate mint gellato and that was good that is the only reason i gave it a 2 star other wise it would be a one. more

always good food 12/15/2010

I have been going to Athenian Grill since they opened and have never had a bad meal. Everything I have tasted has been awesome and if I HAD to criticize something, I would say the salad is a little too greasy and could use a little more flavor. Other than that I have no complaints and feel the restaurant is a great asset to the downtown marina area. more

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! 9/21/2009

After much encouragement from my wife, we decided to give the Athenian a second chance after a bad showing on our first visit. Again, after going there on Sunday for a relaxing dinner by the water, we were let down again!! My wife ordered a glass of wine and it came in a whiskey glass that was chipped around the rim, that was the start of it. Our dinner came and I had the mousaka and she had the salmon. The mousaka tasted as if it had been scorched on the bottom and been sitting on the stove for several hours. The vegetables were so over cooked there was no taste to it. The salmon wasn't bad, again, with the vegetables so overcooked, that was the only thing that could be eaten. Our plates were almost as full when they took them away as when they put them in front of us. The waitress simply said she was sorry we didn't enjoy the meal. It was a total waste of $60 that could have been spent elsewhere. I'm afraid once bitten, twice shy and there will be no 3rd time lucky for the Athenian Grill from us!! Pros: Great Setting by the Water Cons: Food/Service more

Must have been an off night at The Athenian Grill for the Naysayers? 12/15/2008

I have been eating at The Athenian Grill for years. You can't beat the location and the food is always plentiful and tasty. The staff is very friendly; I have never left the place hungry and always feel like I get a great value too. The burgers are huge (Try the Pastrami Cheeseburger), the Gyros and Suvliki are wonderful and you can?t beat the Greek food.\r \r I read the review by chefvakaris (?Athena is rolling in her grave?) and wonder what village he grew up in. I?ve had Greek food while traveling in Greece that doesn?t come close to the freshness and quality taste that I get on a regular basis at The Athenian Grill.\r \r The other comment made by chefvakaris about missing The Athenian Grill?s old neighbor Vasili's Greek Taverna and asking where they went? I researched this issue and have a simple answer? They went out of business less than one year after opening. I guess the general public was not as impressed as chefvakaris?\r \r The Athenian Grill has been around for more than 10 years. I suppose you can say they must know what they are doing, and are successful in the food service business, because their success speaks volumes over the negative comments listed in a couple of other reviews.\r \r See for yourself... I?ll keep going back to The Athenian Grill for a long time coming!\r \r Pros: Wonderful Food, Friendly Staff, Great Location and Excellent Value for Your Money Cons: Not Open for Breakfast and Only Open Until 9:00pm more

Athena is rolling in her grave. 10/9/2008

The Athenian Grill has been in Suisun forever and their regular customers must be very ignorantly loyal, lazy, or family. (all of whom do not seem to care about traditional Greek food) The only thing this place has going for it is the water. You can literally take off from Seattle, WA, sail right up to the dock in front of this restaurant, tie off your vessel, and eat. Yes the atmosphere is nice. But, my friend, if you're looking for traditional Greek cuisine, you will experience great disappointment. My younger brother and I were in the mood for some Greek food last week so we decided to check out this place hearing mixed reviews. I should have spent the 45 minutes driving to the Greek Village Inn than the 45 minutes I spent here choking down their version of Greek food. Upon receiving the menu I thought I was missing half of it. They didn't have Paputsakia, a good piece of lamb, or any of the other things I grew up eating. But they had plenty of room for chili fries, cheese sticks, and five different types of burgers. Check out the menu for yourself w w w. atheniangrill. net/menu.htm The essence, all in all, did not exist. I miss their old neighbor Vasili's Greek Taverna. That place was quite a gem. I wonder where they went. Pros: The part of the city in which this place exists Cons: food, food selection, staff knowledge more

Great waterfront setting and friendly service 10/20/2006

How utterly disappointing!! When will someone open up a decent Greek restaurant. This place was awful! Actually I came home and was ill. The spanakopeta was prepared (probably frozen) in a puff pastry, the same with the feta tyropita, rather than the phyllo dough, and both were rather barren on ingredients. I ate the spankopeta hoping for better taste with each bite -- quite to the contrary. The typopita I took one bite and left. The salad was tasteless, with a heavy oil side dressing (very cheap olive oil) which I tasted once and left; the falafel was burnt and hard, the dolmades were also tasteless (ate one). Several squares of old, cheap feta rounded out the meal. My husband's meal was not any better with an oily ""grilled"" salmon steak (it had the appearance of grilling at least), another tasteless salad (I took a bite and agreed), and some side veggies directly from CostCo. This place had a great review in the S.F. Chronicle or Contra Costa Times about a year ago. One can only guess how that happened!! I cook Greek food, and my dishes (I'm a nonprofessional) far exceed anything I was served this evening. My recommendation is, if you want to waste some money and taste a very poor representation of Greek food, then go. Otherwise, find a friend who knows how to prepare the dishes and, in exchange for a great bottle of wine and doing the cleanup, eat some real Greek food. Pros: waterfront location / customer service Cons: food more

Great Tasting Authentic Homemade Greek 5/13/2006

So Cal Tourists, Sat night around 7:15p. Place is right off the marina in a restaurant-heavy area. Have a covered patio with a heater or two and plastic sidings. Inside looks like a typical grill/deli nothing fancy, hence a real laid back atmosphere. Get the Hummus, tastes great. Wife is vegetarian, and we both LOVED the falafels. Best tasting, moist Falafels I have had on the west coast (over four years now). If you find better, let me know! If you get the salad, ask for dressing on the side. They drenched ours. Heard the Shrimp Soulvaki is really good. But I got the Chicken one. It was average to above average with nice trimmings. Had to add some more lemon on top for more flavor, but seems like I have to do that all the time I order that dish. Great food overall and fun, jolly server. Pros: Falafels, Hummus, Fun, Helpful Servers Cons: Need Better Decor more

Great Greek Food. 5/1/2006

This restaurant is so good! I like to come here all the time whether it's with friends or on a date...... whether it's the winter or the summer I also sit out on the patio. The food is delicious; I haven't found any Greek food to compare. The menu is a good size & you have plenty to choose from. The restaurant is right on the marina for a nice view. Pros: Food, Service, Views Cons: No more Ice Tea more

Very Very Good 11/20/2005

Like this place especially during nice weather I can relax and sit outside. It is by the water close to a dock of a few boats. I never ate inside but walked through it. The inside seems small but sweet and kid friendly. Great food and the waitresses are always nice. Excellent food!!! more
