TERRRRRRRIBLE EXPERIENCE 11/17/2010

I have been to atascazoo one time and will never go again, First off my dogs name is Kush, they seemed to think that was ridiculous with that also being a type of marajuana. My dog doesnt ever see other dogs and was freaking out and being EXTREMELY mean (biting). I set there for an hr and a half waiting, they werent busy. Before i ever went i had called and told them that im a college student and i dont have a fortune to spend on a FREE dog. They nearly insisted on test after test after test. I knew he had mange already but the lady said she would not give med for it if i didnt do the skin scrape, so of course i did. She also told me my dog was going to get cancer because only one of his balls dropped and it would cost $450 to neuter him because of surgery. He didnt get neutered, ill be damn if 2 weeks later that other ball didnt drop. saved a lot of money. I still left atascazoos paying $400, I also shortly after bringing him there found that i can buy the IVOMECTIN that she sold me for $130, at tractor supply or any feed store pretty much for $30-50 bucks depending on bottle size. Ole Kush will never go to another vet... and hes keeping his balls!!! BOTH OF EM!! more

Excellent Care 6/2/2010

I've used the Zoo for 15 years for my dogs. I have been extremely happy with the level of care and the attentiveness of the staff - both medical and service personnel. I've routinely boarded my dog and she always is happy to see the staff who know her by name- a sure indication that my dog is cared for and that she is attached to those who attend to her needs during boarding. My dog's medical needs are immediately taken care of in terms of routine and immediate need care. As far as prices go, I've searched the area for a variety of services and found that the Zoo offers dental cleaning that undercut others by over $150. Surgery and immediate need care costs are competitive. You can't beat the care level and the wonderful convienience of having available help on weekends and evenings. Pros: attentive, compassionate, fair prices more

Outstanding vets & staff 4/8/2010

Have been a client for the last 18-20 years. As a registered nurse, I am not only knowledgeable but understanding of all things medical and the issues. I have been in that waiting room listening and watching to all of the very rude, impatient clients. I have seen this in hospitals which means, you cannot please all the people, all the time. My husband and I are very much caring and emotionaly attached to our animals. Dr. Kiker and her associates and staff have always been great. Calls to the home to check on the animal's condition after treatment is hard to come by & I always get that from Atascazoo. I am so sorry for those individuals who always see the glass as ""half full."" You want quality care, you have to pay for it. Been to the Houston med center lately?\r PJ Pros: Compassionate, caring, patience and great communication Cons: None that I have figured out in the last 18-20 years. more

rude and WAY too expensive 11/1/2009

Every time we've been in they've been relatively rude and seem only interested in performing tests and procedures to bring in money... and WAY too much money at that. There are plenty of other choices in the area where the people are friendly and actually seem concerned about the animal and you. Cons: rude people, over-priced more

Expensive 10/6/2009

My first visit was with the reptile Vet. She was very sweet, caring and reassuring. Second visit I got the third degree about wanting to breed my little dog. Third visit i got the third degree over my cat having flees, flee dander, not having shots current and they acted like because I could not afford $105 for x-rays, $110 for blood and $1000 for surgery that I was just going to go home and let my cat die in pain. The tech seemed like she was trying real hard not to get an attitude with me and didn't seem to care that my cat was throwing up blood and feeling really bad, she was more concerned with what i was going to pay for and what tests she could have me do. I told the Vet i would see if i could find someplace cheaper and she said i can send some meds with you to make her more comfortable until you come back. I didn't like the overall feel of the conversation though the vet was nice, when her and the tech went to the back I just felt like these people just don't care. She didn't even offer to give me info on a cheaper vet, or offer any reduced priced services or anything like that. Although i have been going here since I moved to crosby, I won't go back now. Even if i have to go to the Low Cost Animal Clinic off 610 loop. What i can say is really good about this place is that it is especially clean but every time i have been there, i was the only customer but could hear some animals in the back. Pros: clean Cons: expensive more

Dr. Cornelius is very compassionate... 4/12/2009

She really is an amazing veterinarian. I can't tell you how many clients and pets have benefitted from their relationship with her. She is so caring and reassuring, and I know that she actually is genuinely concerned about each and every sick animal. Pros: Understanding, compassionate, honest Cons: None whatsoever more

We no longer recommend them because... 1/1/2009

I had to search hard to find a vet like Dr Wysocki that will see pet ratz, and has very reasonable prices in treating them. She has always provided excellent care for our pets (we switched our dogs to her also) BUT NOW THEY ""FIRED"" HER! WHAT A SHAME....now we will find where she goes, and take our 10 pets, (and our referrals) there. Cons: Fire excellent staff more

Started out well; subsequent visits disappointing 12/20/2008

I take my cat to Atascazoo but am going to change vets. Originally, my cat saw the vets there for routine procedures and check-ups. This year, my cat was struggling with daily sickness (apparently Citysearch won't let me say it), despite no changes in diet or other symptoms. The vets were confounded and told me to order a bunch of expensive tests--which I did. The tests showed nothing. However, I realized that I had recently installed Glade oil scents into my electric sockets, which coincided with the cat being sick. I removed the oil scenters and my cat did not sick anymore. I called the vet back to discuss this with her; she said she doubted that was the reason and was quite condescending and rude. Well, guess what, vet? My cat hasn't thrown up since I took those things out. I'm going to take her to a more compassionate and friendly vet next time--one who won't be afraid to listen to something with an open mind! Pros: Convenience of hours Cons: Everything else more

WORSE VET IN THE SURROUNDING HOUSTON AREA 12/11/2008

This vet clinic proves time and time again they are more concerened about making big money then they are actually caring about the animals that they see. A while back I brought my cat to see one of the vets there and turned out my cat had to stay for about 3 days in the hospital. When they called me to pick up my cat, I was told to pay an ex amount of money to pick up my cat. I never thought anything about it. Paid my bill and grabbed my cat and we went home. Well, 30 days letter I get a bill in the mail from Atascazoo animal hospital stating I owe them another 350.00!!! Well, to be quite I honest I was very upset natually so I called down there to see what the deal was and I was told their employee "" made a mistake"" when checking me out and didn't charge me the right amount. I refused to pay any more money and after a short time later, they actually had the nerve to serve me a law suit!! These people are crooks people be very aware of this outfit!! STAY AWAY!! Cons: All about the money..No care whatsoever.. more

Atascazoo - NOT FOR ANIMAL LOVERS! 9/22/2008

I used to take my dogs to Atascazoo but after three or so visits of waiting over an hour to 1 1/2 hours to see a vet (with a confirmed appointment) and then another 30 minutes to an hour once the Vet came in to see my dogs... I decided to find a new vet.... not to mention THE EXTREMELY high prices!!!! I am glad to see others mentioning the same thing. BUT AFTER MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM LESS THAN TWO HOURS AGO, I WILL NEVER, EVER TAKE A PET OR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!!! My sister lives in Crosby and had run over her daughters' dog by accident and was looking for a place to take him (around 8:40pm in the evening). I called my vet first, which had an answering machine and then called Atascazoo... the first time they picked up the phone and hung up, I then called right back and they answered only to tell me after explaining my situation to them that they were closing in 10 minutes. I asked if they could possibly wait for my sister to get there, since she was coming from Crosby, but had already headed our way, they put me on hold and another woman answered the phone and told me we would have to go further into Humble (with a Hurricane that just came through and all the power outages, this could be up to an additional 20 minutes or so) to an Emergency Clinic that was open all night. If you are an animal lover like me, this is like a Doctor's office telling me to take my child further up the road because they were closing and had to get home!!!!! Atascazoo is a disgrace to the Animal Care business! Pros: HMMMMM Cons: Not very caring! more

Great Place, Loves Animals 5/2/2008

I've been taking my pets there for the past 6 months. And their GREAT. Meds may be a little expensive, but heck their expensive everywhere. The staff is friendly even when the place is super packed and the pressure is on to make sure the clients are seen. The Doctors are great...theres even a few new Doctors who are great as well. I recommend it to anyone -As far as Mrs.Campbell's experience...I would bet anything it was due to previous staff members...I didn't start taking mine until they had already hired on new staff. I not only have a friend who works there...but I've heard the horror stories about the previous staff. The new staff are great though... Pros: Friendly Staff - Great Doctors - All Seem To Really Care For Your Pets Cons: Expensive Meds. more

animal friendly, knowledgeable in the field of veterinary medicine. 3/7/2008

Atazcazoo is where my mom takes her cat Paris who is a maine-coon with a hilton type personality. My\r grandmother takes her Jack Russell terrier ""Sassy"" also. Our family has used Atazcazoo since we\r moved to Humble and we have'nt had any problems with this clinic. If the clinic works on hamsters\r I will be taking my female hamster Houdini there also. Pros: Knowledgeable, friendly staff, clean, always ready to answer any questions Cons: Can be a bit expensive on flea meds more

Negligent, incompetent, and by far the worst experience that we have had at a veterinarian. 12/26/2007

My dog stayed for a bit more than a week (~10days) this summer and had a nasty ear infection when I picked him up. The vet confirmed that she noticed the ear infection, but chose not to treat it. My dogs ear was extremely inflamed, had a foul odor, and gray pus oozing out in addition to other symptoms such as scratching, and shaking his head yet the vet still neglected the infection. I thought it was extremely cruel to allow an animal to endure such discomfort for that duration of time. I reluctantly returned to this establishment over the holiday because my arranged 'doggy sitter' plans fell through. This time I left specific written instructions to check his ears from time to time for signs of infection. The staff ignored my request and again, upon picking up my beloved friend, he again had obvious signs of a nasty ear infection. I called and asked why had my request not been fulfilled even though I am a paying customer, and the staff member simply told me that ""we didn't write the request on the board...we apologize"". In addition to the neglect that my dog received at this establishment, there are obvious signs of inexperienced staff members as they requested me to fill out the exact same paperwork several times. They apparently kept losing the original copy. The communication between staff members and patrons is deficient, my dog has not received proper care the 2 out of 3 times that he has stayed. Needless to say I will not make this mistake again and I advise you to do the same. Pros: price for boarding is reasonable- $14 per day Cons: They will neglect the health needs of your pet, even with instructions and vet examinations. more
