Located within Mitsuwa Marketplace, Asahiya is a spacious Japanese bookstore that offers a variety of books, media, and manga.
Extremely well-organized, Asahiya is set up in such a way that it is both easy to find precisely what you are looking for, but also convenient for casual browsing.
To the immediate right of the entrance is Asahiya's selection of music and DVDs. The CD selection is pretty wide, with albums and CDs from both older and newer artists, as well as OSTs (official sound tracks) and albums/singles from anime and video games. The DVD collection is smaller, but showcases popular Japanese films (and sometimes Korean films, as well).
Asahiya is also kept updated with Japanese magazine releases of various kinds, from fashion to music to anime. The entire back wall is devoted to manga and art books, which (like the rest of the store) is well-organized and easy to browse through. Though I do not read Japaense well enough to purchase a novel written in the language, I can say that their selection is large and excellent.
Prices are listed in the original Japanese yen, but there are charts placed throughout the store for easy, general conversions. The prices of these products tends to run a bit high (especially on the media products), but this is only because they are authentic imported products.
