Cool place 7/20/2008

I thought this place had a cool atmosphere (loud, but not annoying), really funky, and good food! The service was horrendous, but I guess you gotta get used to that in New York. They make absolutely no changes to the menu items, and they will judge you for asking- or at least my waiter will. It's good food and cheap though! Pros: Good, healthy food Cons: Aloof service more

I love this place so much. I went on my first date with my b/f here and it was perfect - sangria was GREAT, food was so good. Waitresses are very friendly, attentive. We just went again last week for the first time in 10 months and nothing has changed--sangria was so so good and the food was amazing. Plus, the prices are cheap and it's a great place to people watch (if you sit outside). If you go, try the hummus...it is by far the best hummus I've ever had:) I'm going again this Saturday. Good food, poor service 5/9/2007

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. Mainly because of convenience (I live in the neighborhood). I have to acknowledge how clueless the waitstaff seems to be at times. I have seen my plate of food sit on the counter for quite a while, as the waitstaff chatted eachother up. Also, the food preparation is inconsistent. For example, sometimes a sandwich will come on a baguette, and sometimes on a roll. Sometimes bread will be served when you sit down, and sometimes it won't. Overall, there aren't enough issues to outweigh the tastiness of the food, or the convenience of the location for me. Also, the prices are decent compared to some of it's neighboring restaurants. If you're not uptight, not in a hurry, and enjoy French/Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and trendy atmospheres, I highly recommend this place. Hey, the waitstaff is even entertaining at times. I had a German waiter who played Lotte Lenya and regaled us with stories of post-war europe. Only in New york! Pros: good food, interesting ambience, great location, affordable Cons: Poor service, waitstaff sometimes rude and disinterested. more

very friendly service 5/7/2007

I frequent this place whenever I am in the area and have always had great friendly service at the bar. Very cute female bartenders who are both attentive and sweet. The prices are fair and the food is good. The place is a Tribeca landmark and is as interesting to dine in as the owner is to look at. I would recommend Yaffas. more

Worst Brunch Ever 4/25/2007

This place is a disaster. We waited over 45 minutes for our food and it was freezing cold when it arrived. \r There's pretty much nothing worse than cold pancakes (can't even melt butter) and cold eggs. \r Our drinks didn't even come out while we were waiting and the waiter didn't do anything to make up for the fiasco. Thing after thing went wrong so we just started to laugh because it was so unbelievable. It would have all been funny until the waiter placed a scalding cup of coffee in front of our baby who of course immediately tried to grab it. All this could have been remedied if the waiter had been more apologetic but he didn't seem to care, or truly understand, how much of a disaster it all was. more

Yaffas - AVOID THIS PLACE 3/24/2007

I mistakenly went to Yaffas this past Sat @ 3pm on a late lunch date. AVOID this place!! NASTY!! (This is the first negative review I have written.)From the outside the place looks fun and looks like a great spot. The menu is enticing and priced well, so we entered, sat at the bar and ordered. We soon noticed that the end of the bar served as a spot for the staff to stand and loudly complain about working and the restaurant in general. After that, we noticed the VERY sick waiter coughing, sneezing, and repeatedly stating how he ""wished he could go home"" as he dipped his germy hands in a bucket of ice, placed it in a pitcher and served the pitcher of ice water to patrons. After a bit, I went to the bathroom and there was a HUGE ro ach on the floor - NASTY. It was too late to cancel our order (and I was on a date) so I ate my sandwich, which was missing avocado (a main ingredient) and the other main ingredient brie cheese, was sooo melted that only the white crust remained. Oh and I should also mention the place smelled dirty and due to a ventilation problem it was kinda smokey. Yaffas - when I think of it I want to YAK! NOT RECCOMENDED Cons: Dirty, Ro aches more

A little too casual 12/27/2006

At first glance you might think this place is a nice eclectic hangout. Second glance, once you're inside is that it's a little run down, could use some sprucing up. Food was average, but at least not terribly overpriced, but getting there. Waiters are a little too casual. Pros: unusual decor Cons: needs to be spruced up more

Good food.... 7/27/2006

I've been here a few times and always sat outside or at the bar. While I always enjoy the food I haven't always had the best service. Will I keep going back sure nice feel, relaxing drinks, good reasonable food... just not if I'm rushing to a movie. more

Great food and style 7/4/2006

My friends and I were stuck in the city over the long Fourth of July weekend and we were looking for a place to have dinner and drinks. We were in Tribeca and found Yaffa's on Citysearch. I had always heard great things about this place over the years, so we decided to head there. Great decision! The food was outstanding and the place has a style and energy all it's own. Forget this place 9/29/2005

We called a day ahead and made a lunch reservation for 10 people for our friend's birthday. When we got there, we were told by the waitstaff that the room where our party was to be seated was unavailable due to a photo shoot going on there, and that they couldn't seat us. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, they said ""we're just waitstaff"" and didn't get a manager or even offer an apology. At that point, we were very happy to go somewhere else down the block because of the rude treatment we received. I, for one, have no intention of going back; I've gotten better treatment at McDonalds for crying out loud! more

Ugh 8/4/2004

Though an out of towner, I am in NYC quite frequently, and encounter mostly fantastic service. This was not the case at Yaffa's; we were made to wait an unreasonable amount of time in an otherwise empty restaurant--then chided for our ""impatience"" by a waitress who proceeded to shoot dirty looks at us, despite not even being OUR waitress. The food was merely okay, but not worth the price, the wait, or the attitude. Nice decoupage on the tables, but not nice enough to convince me or my friends to return. had visitors in from out of town, 6 of us turned up at 10pm Sat night - the Brazilian waiter could not have been more courteous. Wonderful choice of eclectic foods - tasting even better than it sounded. Great atmosphere & setting. Everyone went away with a good recommendation for where to meet in Tribeca. Snotty; not worth our time 5/5/2004

We waited 15 minutes for a menu, another 20 for a tea, another 15 for an appetizer, then when the plates came out, the waitress had to ask me what I'd ordered. Mine came out when everyone was finished, and was cold. After a $3 tip on a $51 bill, the Coyote Ugly-reject manager approached us, condescending to us over how ""In AMERICA we tip 15%.."" We ARE American, you pompous twit. Good service though, is universal. Pros: Nice decor Cons: , Huge time waster, Food was only average more

Nice place for a quick bite and a beer 6/8/2003

Stopped in to get a little something to stave off my hunger. Waitresses were friendly ... the ""tapas"" were delicious (beets, mushrooms, and fried calamari). more
