Editorial review from Citysearch 10/25/2012

Dr. Lee is so wonderful, I can't even begin to tell you. I have taken my pets to him for many, many years (since 1997) and he always impresses me with his thoroughness, compassion and the way he explains things to me. He truly loves animals, it just shows. And he cares about their people too, it shows as well. I have also met Dr. Ford, and he too seems great - a nice addition to Dr. Lee's team. This is just a great hospital, and if you care about your fur babies the way I do then you will be so happy to have found it. It is truly a little gem! Fair prices, excellent care - you will not go wrong coming here. more

Be careful with your pet and your wallet!!! 2/2/2011

I am truly amazed at all of the great write ups that Animal Medical Center of Deer Valley received in this post. I started seeing Dr. Lee when he opened his practice on 39th Dr. & Deer Valley many many years ago. He was a good vet back then even though upselling was part of the clinic's strategy. Then he moved away for several years to service the wealthier clients in the valley. When he returned we took our pup to him but was usually scheduled with Dr. Derksen. On one visit my son's puppy was a little under the weather. Dr. Derksen went to town. She left the room and the messenger brought the bill for surgery...about 2,700.00 to remove a blockage she showed me in an xray. She told me the dog could die without the surgery so what could I do. She said I did not have time for a 2nd opinion and that Dr. Lee agreed (although he never met with me face to face). We almost lost him to the surgery. There was no blockage after all!!! He left the clinic leaking blood and had to go back 2x's to be rehydrated, which were additional charges. I sumitted a complaint to the board of examiners. I don't know what happened to Dr. Derksen, but she isn't there anymore. I pleaded for some kind of financial relief from the clinic since I am on a fixed income, but they were cold and uncaring about the entire ordeal. I wrote Dr. Lee a letter, but if he is this caring person that I read in these posts, he certainly was not caring to me or my situation. more

Best, Caring Veterinarian 10/24/2008

We have been seeing Dr. Lee since 2004 when got our first puppy. We couldn't believe what a caring, compassionate person he is. He helped us in so many ways and was always there at a moments notice when we had an emergency. When he went to Scottsdale, we followed him even though we did not like the facility. When he left Scottsdale, he made sure all of his customers knew where he would be and how to reach the clinic. We followed him for the year he did this as well. We could have found a new Vet but we love him so much, we didn't feel anyone could fill his shoes! We were elated when his Deer Valley practice re-opened in 2008. We will follow him if he ever moves again because of his loving, caring, compassionate ways. His staff is also very friendly and always greets our dog when she comes in! more

Best Vet in Valley 6/25/2008

I have been taking my cats to Dr. Lee since 1997 and wouldn't take them anywhere else. I've followed him to each practice and do agree that the practice in Scottsdale, where he left, did not have the pet's best interest at heart. The other reviewer's negative concerns are valid, but I don't think they applied to Dr. Lee, personally. I think they applied to the facility as a whole. I assume that's why Dr. Lee left and went back into his own practice, as he didn't agree with their practices. Either way, HIS integrity never waivered and I trust him completely when it comes to the care of my pets. He's compassionate, caring, very honest and truly cares for the pet's best interest. I have never felt as though I overpaid for any services and honestly feel like his care for the pets is worth every penny. \r \r I highly recommend him and unlike the Scottsdale office, the turnover at his own practice is minimal. I will continue to take my pets to him, no matter where his office is. Pros: Compassionate, genuinely cares for my pets, honest about care recommendations Cons: None...if I had to choose it would be location, but he's worth the drive more

Best Vet Ever 6/23/2008

I have been a client of of Dr. Lee's since he worked with Dr. Watson. Dr. Lee took great care of my Louie, even let me sit with Louie in the recovery room after he had had surgery. When Dr. Lee moved to the Cactus Animal Hospital, about 5 miles from my home, I followed him. I followed him to the first Deer Valley Hospital even though it is to hell and gone away from my home. And I followed him to his 2nd deer valley Hospital. He is very compassionate and treats my dogs with such love and skill. I have 3 dogs now and would not think of taking them anyplace else....except the Animal Emergency Hospital if they get sick at night or on weekends. I know Mike is very concerned about the cost of treating my animals and does not do any unnecessary tests. I would only change vets if Dr. Lee moved his practice to Catalina Island and, as far as I know, that is not under consideration. As for the disgruntled folks who have posted here, you can please some of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time. Pros: compassionate, knowledgeable, easy to work with, good value, my dogs love him Cons: A long way from my home more

Caring and competent DVM 6/12/2008

Don't know where the negative reviewers were going to, I expect they went to the place where Dr Lee went to in Scottsdale (formally Cactus Animal) and subsequently left. Indeed, it is a ""Taj Mahal"" aimed at the rich clientele. Dr Lee is a excellent and caring vet.. I knew him from the 80's and hold him in the highest regard. He listens and cares. Pros: Very good care, attentive staff. Cons: Awful Parking! more

Pets deserve the best. 6/8/2008

So far I have everyone beat! I have been with Dr. Lee since he began his practice on Cactus. He has treated all of my doxies over these past years. If it weren't for him I would have never spent eight extra years with my beloved Barnum who at four years of age developed Renal failure. It was Dr. Lee who would not give up on her and six weeks later we took her home on borrowed time. She lasted, with his guidance and counsel another eight years and on May 11, 2007 his office sat with me as we said our good-byes. My tears were not the only ones shed. I truly believe that Dr. Lee did not begin his practice to ""live well"" , but practices to help our pets ""live well"". Can't go wrong here!!! Pros: Personal touch Cons: long drive, but worth it more

Awesome Vet and staff 6/8/2008

I've been going to Dr. Lee since my pups were 6 mo's old, they're 6-7 yrs old now. Thats should tell you right there how good he is. He's very reasonably priced, service(wait time) is above average and he's one of the few Vet's that actually listen to you. He'll get down on the floor with my dogs to do a through check of them, and give you all options necessary to help any issue's. He's doesnt make you feel stupid if you have silly questions to ask. His staff, especially his wife, make you and your pets feel right at home. He's at a new location now(his own clinic), 23425 N 39th Dr, Glendale Az, 85310. Overall, the atmosphere is professional, friendly and a must visit, animal hospital to go to. Pros: warm and friendly atmospere Cons: depending on where you live, can be too far more

Absolutely one of the best! 2/21/2008

I also completely disagree with the first two reviewers. We started taking our cat to Dr. Lee when we moved to Phoenix 7 years ago. They recently diagnosed her with Chronic Renal Failure (at 17-18 years old), which resulted in severe dehydration and anemia. He and his staff were great and did everything possible to help her. When it was apparent that she was failing, and there was nothing else we could do to save her, they made her as comfortable as possible and did their utmost to ease our pain. We've since adopted a kitten, and will take him to Dr. Lee since we know he'll get top-notch care. If you're looking for a vet, Dr. Lee is one of the best! Pros: Quality of care, staff, client service Cons: Parking could be better more

One of the best veterinarian's in Arizona!! 11/30/2007

I first went to see Dr. Lee about 7 years ago, after moving to the same neighborhood his facility was.\r I found the staff to be friendly and excellent. My pets loved Dr. Lee, he has a calming demeanor, and he is so friendly, caring, loving, compassionate and understanding. We love Dr. Lee!! He sent us a letter after the new hospital was built explaining he did NOT branch out to Scottsdale. And is building another facitlity.\r We recently moved to Arizona City, and our dog Chewey is very ill, I called the Deer Valley clinic, left a frantic message, and he called back so fast to offer advice, support and an email address to keep him posted on the condition of our pet...he truly is an amazing vet, I would happily drive the hour and a half to town to see the doctor. He is thorough and reasonably priced!! When my cat (Mom) was put down at another ER he and his staff sent us a sympathy card...they really care! Pros: Friendly, Thorough, Caring, Reasonable Prices Cons: No cons more

The best and only place 4/3/2007

Dr. Michael Lee is one of the best veterinarian in all of AZ! When I moved here five years ago, I hopped around with my pets until I found a veterinarian that I felt cared. I don't go to my local veterinarians and will travel 20+ miles to Dr. Lee's facility. I receive kind, courteous service, and I believe Dr. Lee really cares. I recently had to put my 13 year old husky to sleep, and I couldn't ask for a more professional staff to help me through this. They gave me time and support. I had all the time I wanted in a private room instead of rushing me out to the reception area and out of the office. Pros: Professional, caring staff Cons: shared parking, congested parking, minimal area for pet relief outside, no emergency parking more

Best Vet - Dr. Lee is exceptional with care and treatment, cost is also very reasonable 3/2/2007

I have no idea who the first two reviewers are but they are crazy!!! Our 4 cats have been patients of Dr. Lee's for over 5 years and we know all the staff by first names. They DO NOT have high turnover and are very accomodating, friendly, and kind. Dr. Lee is one of the best vets I have seen in the valley especially after moving to the west side from Scottsdale. My oldest cat who is 17 had to be hospitalized for 5 days due to kidney failure and sevear dehydration. I told Dr. Lee that at $300 a day I couldn't afford the treatment. He let me make payments and didn't charge me for the 5th day of treatment at all. He also helped me find her first months medications for free from a patient that recently lost her cat and who's cat was on the same medications. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Lee, as he is very warm, and gentle. He has a very kind soul and is so wonderful with our cats. They love him and are not scared to go to the vet to see him. \r \r The property management company did not renew their lease and so he and the other doctor there were asked to join another office in North Scottsdale however Dr. Lee decided to remain on the west side of town and is not practicing in North Scottsdale at the ""new location"" so you can disregard the comment about the high fees to pay for that place. There are 4 other vets at the Scottsdale location that are paying for that office. Additionally, I have been to 3 vets offices for my cats subQ fluids and this office has saved me hundreds of dollars by charging up to 50% less for the fluids.\r \r I have never met such a compassionate vet and staff and welcome everyone to try them out. They will work with you on payment arrangments and all you have to do is ask for a quote for services BEFORE they are rendered. Don't be ignorant and wait until after the services are completed, get the fee quote up front and discuss payment options, they are more than willing to accomodate you and you will be very glad to have found Doctor Michael Lee.\r Pros: Friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, caring staff and doctor, late hours Cons: shared parking lot with many other businesses, more

Doctor is a con artist, staff are like gypsies 1/19/2007

This guy gave me an absurdly high estimate to diagnosis my dog with dietary indiscretion, because he ate something outside. My bill was $800 for bloodwork and x-rays. He never even told me how much it cost before hand. I've been here before and thought it was OK, but each time I go everybody's different. His bills so high so he can pay for his fancy new hospital. Cons: too many to count more

Avoid at all costs 10/13/2006

They have Ringworm very bad. I took my dog there and she got it as well as my neighbor. They gave us the medication for free! Wow, how nice...I paid 300.00 for surgery and my dog gets ringworm. Also they have very high turn around with employees, seems like no one stays there for long. The hours are always changing, I really liked it there at first, seems to be going down hill. Pros: good location Cons: where should I start more

Wonderful people 1/13/2006

The people at Dr. Lee's are wonderful and bent over backwards to save my cat's life. I'll always be grateful. Pros: caring, knowledgeable more
