I have went to Dr. Sharp for several years for my geriatric cat (16 years). I fully appreciate Dr. Sharp and many of his support staff. Until this year I had been going for minor issues and well checks. This year kitty was diagnosed by Dr. Sharp with hyperthyroidism. Kitty doesn't tolerate meds well, but I am happy to have the vet's patience and willingness to try different things to accommodate her and ensure she is getting the nutrients she needs. I feel Dr. Sharp is very clear and balanced in providing me information via medical books, pamphlets, and his personal history/experience with pets encountered within his practice. Several months later a hard dental mass was discovered, which may likely be cancer. I was extremely concerned about doing a bone biopsy, only to confirm a diagnosis for this geriatric kitty. Dr. Sharp took the time to go over the radiograph impressions (clinical then explain in laymen terms for me), educate me on the possible diagnoses, explain the prognosis from what he knows/has seen, and provide me an overall assessment considering my individual kitty. Then he advised what paths of treatment I could choose from, no pressure. In such a stressful time, it means so very much for someone to take the time to do this so you may make a decision! \r \r Admittedly, during well visits I didn't find anything here nor there to remark on Dr. Sharp's bedside manner. Now that my kitty has had two major issues, I will without a doubt trust that Dr. Sharp is a knowledgeable and compassionate pet provider. more

We have been using Dr. Sharp for years to keep our dogs and cats healthy. It is unfortunate that clients have had ""off"" experiences with the clinic. I find Dr. Sharp to be very knowledgable & kind. As far as his compassion, we have known Dr. Sharp to be VERY compassionate. We found a stray dog with a coyote trap clamped to his front paw, and by Dr. Sharp's account, the trap had been there for 2 weeks, causing a tremendous amount of infection. He & his staff attempted to surgically remove the vicious trap from this poor dog's leg. They did everything they could, but the septicemia was just too much for the dog's body to handle, and he passed away but in the gentle care of a good team. Dr. Sharp was taken aback by the cruelty of such a horrible incident and sat with us afterwards, explaining why septicemia is so dangerous. He encouraged us to talk to Animal Control about the legality of setting traps like these within city limits, which we did, and found out that these clamp spring traps are highly illegal. I also know via an acquaintance that a veterinary technician routinely called her regarding the status of her dog's recovery while hospitalized when the tech checked on the dog over the weekend. Most people will only get updates during business hours, but Mrs. Edinger was comforted with after hour phone calls, as well as weekend updates and visits when the clinic was closed. The staff went out of their way to calm my friend's fears and curiosity about her dog. When we stop into the clinic to purchase ear cleaner or shampoo, Dr. Sharp will kindly greet us at the front counter too. Overall, we are very pleased with the clinic and will continue to bring our pet's here. more

WILL NOT GO BACK.......EVER! 4/26/2012

I am a small hobby breeder of toy poodles stationed here in San Antonio with my husband. My mother is a vet in Georgia so I have a working knowledge about animals and caring for them. I also am pretty good at recognizing and treating my animals at the first sign of any problem. In the event of an emergency, I have used Westover HIlls several times, but these last few experiences made it my last. The Dr. is in fact cold and unfriendly with the animals. He is a know it all. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but judging by the other reviews on here, I can see I am not the only one who felt this way. I recommend this hospital for people who buy my babies for treatment as well as grooming......NOT ANYMORE. Two weeks ago, I went in with a 4 month old toy poodle who was sick, with an extremely soft stool and vomiting. He had all of his shots but I paid for the test to rule out parvo anyway. I told him I thought he had eaten rye grass, which turns out, it is toxic when it is cut to dogs and livestock. He didn't know this and blew me off when I mentioned it. He sent me home with a 2.9 pound toy poodle, some medicine, and 250.00 dollar bill. No I.V., which should have been administered. In hind sight, I should have never let this happen. My baby died a day and a half later. So the whole experience cost me about 1350.00 including what I paid for my little guy. I recommend Lorenzo to everyone I sell my puppies to because he is "the best." I got my dog back today after she had been there from 8:30 in the morning to 5:00. Her paws were untrimmed around her pads and her ears hadn't been touched, none of the hair had been removed. She smelled like she had been doused in cheap cologne and run back out the door. Needless to say, I finished his piss poor job of grooming when I got home. My baby is extremely jumpy, which is unlike her so I wonder what kind of day she had? I will never return here nor will I recommend this hospital to any of my future clients. I take more pride in the dogs I breed and sell than to have them herded through like cattle by some vet tech, only to receive an astronomical bill at the end. Pros: null Cons: null more

Won't go back 4/2/2012

New to the area, having been military we're used to looking for new vets. Guess we've always been lucky. Until now. Found the doctor not as warm and friendly to my pets as others have been, didn't 'talk' to them to get them familiar with him and certainly did nothing to make me feel comfortable having my pets in his care. Acted irritated if I asked him to repeat information he had already shared. The final straw was our last visit with one pet who had allergies. He prescribed a med and told me it had to be ordered. I checked out to the tune of $100+ and when I asked why so high, the lady said "it's for the visit and the meds, they are $100, we'll call you when they come in." Went to pick them up and got charged another $110. Asked for a refund, had never been told how expensive OR that the first $100 was a "deposit". The receptionist initially started to process it and then went to see the doctor. She came back saying "we don't refund these, they're special ordered." The doctor wouldn't even come out and talk to me, he kept sending his receptionist out to tell me things. Pulled my dogs records and will find another vet immediately. Pros: null Cons: null more

My dog almost died because of this place! 12/25/2008

I had a dog that lived to be 16 years old that our family took to Sharpcare back when they were located on Ingram Rd. There was no other option on where to take my new English Bull-Terrier when I got him.. This last summer my dog (1 year old at the time) was not acting himself. He lost a noticeable amount of weight within a few days, seemed lethargic and was not his usual self. I took him to Dr. Sharp and told him that I was extremely concerned that something was wrong with him. I told Dr. Sharp the same symptoms. Dr. Sharp sent me away after charging me a tune of $150 saying that he was okay. A couple of days later I had to admit my dog to emergency medical clinic because my dog was on the verge of death. I told the ER the symptoms and they immediately ran the parvo test. Indeed my dog did have parvo. After 3 days in the ER he was able to pull through after I was charged a tune of $1400.00.
