My miniature Dachshund 2/2/2012

Definitely this is a wonderful place to take your pet for medical care. We have a miniature Dachshund that recently became paralyzed, dragging her rear legs behind her. Our local vet told us to immediately take her for surgery. We took our vet?s advice and drove from Upper Michigan to Appleton Wisconsin as directed. Upon arrival we were told that ?time was of the essence? and that for starters our dog needed an immediate $4,500 surgical procedure. We were floored as we are on a fixed income. On the way back to Michigan we decided to pursue a second opinion stopping at the Animal Hospital of Howard near closing time. The receptionist and staff were exceptionally warm and friendly and spent the extra time necessary to schedule our pet in for evaluation. To make a long story short, one treatment of acupuncture put our dog back on her feet within 24 hours. She recovered fully within two weeks and jumps and plays with our other two miniature Dachshunds as though the injury never happe more

I have used the Animal Hospital of Howard in the past for my two Schnauzers. My one dog I took in to get spayed and she appeared to come out of the surgery fine. The next day she was very sensitive in one spot on her side so I took her back in because there was a raw spot. We doctored for months and months, several hundreds of dollars later we finally got her healed but she had a scar the size of a quarter. They offered to do plastic surgery to fix but I refused. I kept asking why and they told me she must have reacted to a medicine. Years later I moved and took her to another vet to clearly said that she was burned when she was spayed. They laid her on a heating pad, which malfunctioned and she burned herself. I have since moved back to the area and will never take an animal there again. more

Shut-up 3/19/2011

This facility does really care about the clients, both the animals and their owners. It's exciting to get a new pet, but vet costs are just part of the package. So is grooming. The 2 girls that work in grooming have decades of experience so I am pretty sure the old english sheepdog story wasn't quite how it went. It's pretty obvious that the dog went too long without being groomed so whatever price you had to pay is because of the risk the groomers are taking to fix the mess that you created..unless of course you would like to try and get those mats out..it's painful for the dog and the groomers have to take a lot more time. And if the dog is rarely groomed, I highly doubt the puppy is going to sit nicely on the table. It's your own fault for not researching grooming costs before you acquired a dog that needs frequent grooming. Blasting the facility just made it more obvious that you don't know how to take care of your dog. more

Not Authorized Treatment 11/30/2010

We brought our Old English Sheepdog in to be spayed. The cost estimate was somewhere between 250-290 which was a little high but acceptable. We also made a grooming appointment for 2 weeks later. They called my husband to ask if they could remove her baby teeth $13.50 per tooth. He said ok. They then called and said that they groomed her under anethesia and the cost was $153.00!!!!!! They did not call to get this authorized and why when we had an appointment in 2 weeks? The claimed that her fur was matted and it was inhumane to have her this way. The price is crazy, but what about asking first like they did with the teeth? I was at work when my husband called me, I had told a few co-workers who had similar "add ons" or VERY high prices and said that they no longer go there. I will never take my dogs there again. more

Unhappy with the care given. 3/23/2006

On Friday, March 10, 2006, my dog lacerated his foot while playing in the yard. I took him to the nearest vet, since our regulr vet is about 40 miles away. Despite the fact that my dog's foot was bleading heavily (thanks to a lacerated artery), they re-bandaged his foot after examining it, and put him in a cage, because the vets had routine appointments to deal with. He was scared, nervous, and in pain, as evidenced by his heavy panting. I had to take him to another vet, who made the time to deal with the trouble. As it turned out, he needed surgical repair, and could have lost his toe! I would not recommend this place, as it seems that they care little, unless they know you are a client. more

friendly staff, clean building 11/24/2005

We brought our dog here and he had a lot of health problems, the vets and staff worked with us to help with his problems over and above what we expected, they treated our dog with respect and caring until he passed away last year, I would highly recommend this vet clinic to anyone looking for an understanding and caring vet clinic. more
