Welcome to the Animal Clinic of Iowa City,IA. We offer a wide variety of services for your pet. We have three full-time veterinarians, three licensed veterinary technicians, as well as an experienced support staff.

Our doctors perform a wide variety of surgical procedures. We also offer laser assisted surgery. This is particularly beneficial for feline declaw patients, as it allows for faster, easier recovery. Dr. Gay is experienced in orthopedics, specializing in ACL repair. Please call ahead for an appointment.
Regular dental cleanings are an important part of your pets overall health. The Animal Clinic has experienced, licensed technicians to clean, scale, and polish your pets teeth. Good dental hygiene can help prevent heart, liver, and kidney problems. Dental Care done Monday - Friday mornings by appointment.
Acupuncture and massage therapy-
Acupuncture and massage is available by appointment only. Please call to speak with Dr. Gaeth regarding scheduling.
Appointments are available for routine visits between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday - Friday, and 8:00am - 11:30am on Saturday. For emergencies during regular business hours please call ahead to inform us if possible. This will allow us to prepare for your arrival. For after hour emergencies please contact the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center.
Boarding is a service provided for current Animal Clinic clients. We have a variety of kennel sizes, with capacity for up to 25 animals. We feed Science Diet foods to all boarding animals. If your pet is on a special diet please provide your own food.
Dr. William Welter
Iowa State University, 1975
Dr. Welter is originally from Waterloo, Iowa and attended Iowa State University. He began working at the Animal Clinic after graduating with his degree in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Welter has continued to treat patients at the Animal Clinic since graduating from ISU.
Dr. Valerie Gaeth
Kansas State University, 1983
Dr. Gaeth joined the Animal Clinic in 1991 after practicing in the Iowa City area since 1983. She is originally from Detroit Michigan and graduated from Kansas State Veterinary School of Medicine with her DVM degree in 1983.
Dr. William Gay
Iowa State University, 1980
Dr. Gay is from the Iowa City area and graduated from Iowa State University with a DVM degree in 1980. For a few years he practiced veterinary medicine in Minnesota and Wisconsin, only to return to the Iowa City area. Dr. Gay practiced in a small and large animal veterinary clinic before joining and serving his patients at the Animal Clinic since 1993.
