Amphibious Horizons provides a great way for beginners to get a first taste of kayaking and for experienced kayakers to have a chance to kayak without the price/hassle of owning their own kayak. Located in Quiet Waters Park, right on Harness Creek (which leads into the South River), they offer some guided trips and tours, as well as hourly rentals. All equipment (paddles, lifejackets, etc.) are also included in the price of rental. Their Friday evening paddles during the summer are a great way for beginners to get out on the water with an experienced guide. I believe they also organize longer guided paddles in locations other than Quiet Waters. One word of caution: Harness Creek is often crowded with Powerboats on summer weekends and it can be intimidating for beginners.
