my favorite coffee shop!! 7/7/2010

im sad to see so many negitive responses to my favorite hangout. My friends and I hang out on the patio all the time, the foods are delcious and many options for me as I only eat gluten free. You can tell they take coffee very seriously. The drinks are never overly sweet and the smoothies are to die for, I love this place! Pros: great location and free wifi Cons: the music more

Overpriced and Rude 5/10/2010

Looked like a cute place to stop in and try, I like small independent places. The staff was rude, to the point of being condescending. I will not bother them any more with my patronage. Pros: Looked like a nice place Cons: Looks can be deceiving more

please!! the attitude does not match your quality! 3/29/2010

Very few times have I been disappointed on a cup of tea...whereas I had it on the the other side of the Atlantic or even a different hemisphere, I have found tea to be one enjoyable beverage. I love tea and, believe me, I know tea. That is why I was so shocked at the poor quality of the Darjeeling tea I got a this lovely location. I wanted to like this place so much! The decor was right on, the location was excellent, and it was not a ""chain""... I just was shocked at how weak their tea was. When I pointed this fact, I was ""ordered"" to wait longer. And I mean, ordered. 5 EXTRA minutes went by and the tea did not magically changed its quality but it stayed pale, weak and with no aroma. The baristas attitudes were the only strong thing I got with my poor tea. I think there are other reviews on this topic in this site, go figure! I asked for an extra tea bag, and after more attitude, I had to pay for it. Since it was less that 5 dollars, I could not use my debit card. See where this is going? We finally made it to the table. My boyfriend coffee was COLD! We did not even mentioned it to the baristas, who by now acted like they hated me for asking a second tea bag. I even took a picture of the result of two teabags of cheap Darjeeling brewing for 7 minutes: the perfect portrait of a limp brew of poor quality tea. Sorry, you had the elements to be a neighborhood favorite spot, but the ATTITUDE and the quality of your product should be addressed first. Now...off to a good cup of tea. Coffee Bene, here I go! Pros: location, decor Cons: attitude, quality of their products more

Not Especially Friendly 7/14/2007

If you are passing by, this is an okay place to get good beverages and food. But if you are searching for a coffeehouse to become a regular, this is not it. They do have a number of long-time regulars, so perhaps they've reached their quota. Attempts to involve them in conversations (unless you're one of the long-timers) are not successful. They aren't interested. The baristas at the two nearby Starbucks on Grand Avenue are much friendlier. I try to choose local businesses over chains whenever possible, but not when I'm treated as though my business is not appreciated. Pros: good coffee and food Cons: unfriendly service more

Good coffee - free wi fi 11/5/2006

Amore has good coffee, and a lot of regulars. I go there often to get some work done out of the office because they have good open Wi-Fi. It can be a little hard to find a seat as the weather cools, but that is just because of all of the customers who enjoy the good drinks and personable help and owner. Pros: coffee and service more

A Hill of Beans 4/2/2006

How disappointing to have to rewrite this review. I revisited what had been my absolute all-time favorite coffee shop for the first time in a couple of years and found it to be under new ownership & management. What had previously been very charming, cozy decor has been replaced by pale-mint-green paint and florescent lighting more akin to a gas station than a coffee shop. Didn't make me want to stick around for long. Even my favorite drink (though still on the menu) had somehow changed for the worse. No good. Another good thing ruined by too much tinkering. Pros: Broad Menu Cons: Gas station decor, Inconsistent Drinks, Short on seating more

My Neighborhood Coffee House 10/21/2005

This fantastic little gem of a coffee house on Grand Ave is what every coffee house should be: independently fun and uniqe, with a warm friendly staff, the owner at the counter and great cup of coffee. The place is filled with great local art, ecclectic furniture and fun music (often LIVE!). A wide variety of locally-made pastries and sandwiches are available and homemade gelatto. I love dropping in and studying with a cup of hot coffee, and see that there are a lot of ""regulars"" that do the same. Pros: Gourmet coffee, Great music, Friendly staff more

Fabulous Indie Coffee House 10/12/2005

What you cannot get at chain coffee stores is the quirky, creative, non-Automaton atmosphere that is cultivated by real people running family owned businesses. Amore is not your cookie-cutter coffee house, it is filled with folks who are invested in serving quality coffee and creating a Grand Avenue filled with charming, independently owned and operated stores. Bravo! more

Best Espresso & Coffee In Town! 11/8/2002

By far the best espresso drinks in the midwest. The Kona Mocha is like a malt, and is truly superb. If you like, really like, good espresso drinks, this is the only coffeehouse to go to. Food is good too. Very cool atmosphere. Nice people. more
