Editorial review from Citysearch 9/13/2012

Top notch builder. They really try to do the right thing when it comes to their projects. Progressive, innovative, and forward thinking - the CEO is very in tune with the latest construction industry trends. Amherst is always looking for ways to build smarter and faster while maintaining their outstanding quality and safety record. They embrace computer technology and building information modeling (BIM) which gives them a major edge on the competing ?old school? contractors. more

Very bad work ethics 8/3/2010

We hired this company to do some painting and fix a staircase railing as they had a good price compared to other contractors and had a clear time line in the contract of how long the work would take. We ended up firing them before all the work was done because of very bad work ethics and quality: * when painting we would have to go after each layer they applied to tell them where to sand the small ""piles"" of paint they left on the wall. By default they wouldn't remove them and turn a flat smooth surface into sandpaper!! * we had some unexpected damage on one wall from a previous water leak that had been barely fixed. We had them fix this for this. They ended up breaking through shear rock panels around the room to see what's behind. All of this without our consent. We had them fixed their damage for free. * To clean their paint brushes they made a hole in our garden, nest to the water hose so the paint soaked water would collect there. Their intent was to cover the hole with dirt at the end of the cleaning. We discovered this early enough to have them clean the ground, remove dirt around that hole and replace with fresh clean dirt. Once this was done we fired them. We later discovered that they did a poor quality job of painting the walls as paint started to bubble and would come off very easily as thick layers just a few weeks after the end of their work. This is very likely due to the lack of preparation of the wall before painting and applying too thick layers of paint at once. Avoid them, they are going to cost you more than any other contractor at the end. Pros: work done according to time schedule Cons: bad quality of work, very bad ethics more
