DO NOT BUY FROM HERE PUPPY MILL STORE 6/16/2015

American breeders puppy review \r \r We purchased our puppy from American breeders in Mohegan lake 3 weeks ago he is a King Charles caviler he is 3 months old we paid $1400 dollars for our new pet as we left the store we were told the puppy was in perfect health,he did cough a few times but we were told not to worry it was nothing.after taking our puppy home we noticed his cough had gotten worse over the next day. that morning we went to the local vet who informed us that not only was our puppy very sick with kennel cough, pneumonia he also had parasites as well,the vet told us we were sold a sick puppy,we then went back to the store to inform them of this to no avail we have been trying to contact the store for the past 3 weeks now.finally today 3 weeks later the owner called us,not only was he nasty to my wife on the phone,he basically told her there was nothing he could or would do for us it was our problem now we had paid for the dog,basically we were told shag off he doesn't care si more

I recently purchased a puppy from this location. The staff was absolutely wonderful in helping me pick out which dog would best suit my lifestyle. They were very patient and friendly. Each staff member had answers to all of my questions before I had a chance to ask them. The puppies looked very well cared for and very much loved by their caretakers. Before I left with my new family member they explained in detail how to crate train and when to take her to the vet and all the things a new puppy owner would need to know. I'm very happy with my new best friend and would definitely recommend this place to anyone I know looking to purchase a puppy! more

best selection 3/23/2015

Best selection best deals! we came in to look for a labrador and ended up with a labradoodle! Its a lab but they don't shed. We are so happy with the stores recommendation about the non shedding part. I had know idea they existed. They also give you a free vet exam, and money back garauntee. We can't imagine not having her. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and you can even take them out and play without asking- its the best place. more

American Breeders 3/23/2015

I always stop by the store on the way home from work if i have some time too spare. All the puppies look very healthy and the workers are very welcoming and respectful. The manager always answers my questions with no problems and as well the workers do too. I know a few people who have bought puppies or a kitten and have been very pleased with the purchase. I highly recommend American Breeders to buy your new animal from its a great place. more

Regular Here 3/23/2015

Whenever i have free time and are in the area, i stop into this pet store. the dogs always look happy, they have workers continuously cleaning, and its very welcoming enviornment. I know people that have bought dogs here, and ive personally bought 2 dogs here, and can honestly say they are happy healthy dogs. the only customers that ive met that had problems were problems with deworming (anyone thats owned a puppy knows deworming is standard in puppies) and kennel cough (also a common puppy treatment when purchased in ANY store/kennel.) I can honestly say this is the best pet store ive ever been to. more

Looking for a class action suit 6/12/2014

Can someone please help me? I purchased a puppy from american breeders 6 months ago and found out two months ago that she is already blind in one eye and could be going blind in the other eye. It will cost thousands to fix and I will work overtime to raise the money. I can't get these people to call me back. I call every other day and have the records to prove it. I just want my help my dog. I went to an eye doctor for her and they said that it could have only be heritary. They should not be buying from breeders who should not be breeding. Any help is greatly appericated, god bless the people that have lost your animal. more

TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY 5/17/2014

I purchased a beautiful chocolate lab back in 2002. He is now almost 12 years old. He is by far the best dog I have ever owned. I live over 350 miles from this business but I would be interested when I am ready to purchase another lab from them. I have gotten to know the business owner quite well over the years and I can assure you he is a honest and good family man. Their was a lot of inside dirty pool in regards to selling pets illegally at his residence in Mahopac. more

Buyer Beware. My daughter purchase an eight week old puppy for A little under $500.00 from American Breeders on late Saturday afternoon on 02/08/2014. Sunday the dog ate an drank very little. By Monday morning 02/10/2014 the puppy was not eating or drinking and urinated an orange/red color. The purchase of a puppy through American Breeders includes one free vet visit, but what they don't tell you is, this is a brief wellness visit and nothing more. This left my daughter with no other choice but to use another vet, only to find out the puppy which she purchased is very sick with pneumonia. X-rays, and a stool sample had to be taking along with blood work to test the liver and kidney functions, and to check for other potntial problems the puppy may have. To make matters worse when reading through the puppy's papers she also learned the puppy is five months, old not eight weeks. Her vet bill was over $500.00 and she has to go back with the puppy for a recheck.\r Buyers with similar exper more

Rick Doyle, owner of American Breeders, locations in Wappinger Falls, NY; Lake Mohegan, NY and Danubry, CT NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN AND HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS TREATMENT OF DOGS. On Sunday, i bought a puppy from them for my daughter that worked her heart out throughout the school year to get a puppy, within 18 hrs of having the puppy home i had to rush her to emergency care; she is diagnosed with parvovirus, pneumonia and worms and has a low chance of making it. I called Mr. Doyle, unfortunately, he is very well aware of his rights and does not care. I SHOULD HAVE DONE MY HOMEWORK BEFORE HAND BUT AM A TRUSTING PERSON...... Mr. Doyle was shut down in 2003-2004 for selling dogs illegally out of buildings in Mahopac, NY; A doctor (director) of the Sleepy Hollow Animal Hospital stated that since 1981 he has treated more ill puppies and more with congenital abnormalities that were sold from Doyle's kennel than from any other retailer in the region. Honest and Informative 3/21/2013

After previously adopting a shepherd mix and having to bring it back to the shelter a few days later because of aggression issues, I decided I wanted to get a younger dog that I could make sure was well socialized. My nieces and nephews are often over my house with my sister and they're still very small. \r She suggested I go to American Breeders where she got her own dog and had bought our mother a shih-tzu last Christmas. At first I was a bit wary because of the things I've heard about pet shops but I went anyway. When I pulled up there was an kid walking a German Shepherd outside. This is not the dog I got. When I went in to look around I talked to the woman that was working and told her what happened with the other dog. Although she didn't outright say she wouldn't sell me the Shepherd that was outside she did suggest that I shouldn't go for a herding dog if I do have little kids running around and don't want to worry about nipping, which is a natural instinct for them. Our new Family Member 11/26/2012

I just bought a German Shepard from American Breeders, she is one of the best pets I've ever owned. When we picked her up she already knew how to walk on a leash, sit and stay. This store was much smaller then the one in Danbury but still very clean and the animals were healthy more

The worst place in New York hands down! Do some research on this pos named rick doyle.. I cannot begin to inform you enough on this person. I made the worst decision of my life three years ago buying a dog from him..It was my first dog and when she died at the age of three!!! do to what the vet specialists said after thousands of dollars was poor breeding and genetic abnormalities.........please I implore you do not shop here more

I am currently working as an EMT worker in the area, during my break I always take the time to stop at American Breeders. Although I thought the staff would get annoyed by me after a while they've let me know I'm not the only regular there. Im not allowed to have dogs where I live but I did buy my mother a little chihuahua that was on sale for $399. He is a comfort to her since all the chicks have left the nest. I can not wait till I have my own house so I can get a dog for myself! until then I will continue to be a constant vistor at this pet shop, which is by far the cleanest one in the area with the healthiest looking dogs. more

Caring staff 3/14/2012

When I brought in my autistic nephew to american breeders he was frightened. There are many dogs there, playing, barking, being loud, its a sensory overload. So when one of the staff offered to bring puppies outside for him to pet and play with I really appreciated it. Over our next few visits he finally was able to feel at ease in the store. HORRIBLE 3/26/2011

Just bought an 11 week old Pit Bull from the one that just open on Route 9. It seemed like it was healthy, 2 days later we brought him to the vet and he had kennel cough and a couple of parasites. He got my boxer and golden retriever sick. We went back to confront the owner and he said that he doesnt remember selling this dog to us and completely denied everything. He also told us that this puppy got all of his shots but when we went to the vet to confirm them, the vet said he never gave this dog any shots. Worst apart about it is the puppy was also in the cage with 4 other puppies. so they are all sick too. more
