I was walking by Ambiance the other day, and peeked my head in to find out about the rates. Tom, the owner, let me know for first time customers there you can get a cut and highlights for $99. Amazing deal!!! I had my appointment today, and got blonde highlights. I asked for them to be very natural looking, and Tom did a fantastic job! He is really very talented. The cut is also great, he knew exactly how to compliment my face shape. I will be returning in 3 months for sure! more

i love this place! i have been coming to get my haircut from tommy (owner) for five years now and i wouldn't go anywhere else! in 2007 i walked in the door of the salon and told tommy i wanted ""something different"". it had been about five or six years since i had cut my hair at all and for some reason i trusted tommy instantly. that day he transformed my hair and my restored my confidence in about an hour and has continued to do so for the last five years. i have also gone to both of the other stylists for up-dos and they have never failed me. do yourself a favor...go to ambiance, ask for tommy, and put yourself in the hands of someone with style and experience! more

I have really difficult hair to cut (I have fine hair and like a precision cut bob) and have had a few hairdressers just ruin it. I moved here from out of state and going through the process of finding a new hairdresser is nerve racking. I thought I found one in Hermosa, but after she messed up my hair I was back to the drawing board. I drove by Ambiance one day and was lured in by the $99 cut/color special and good reviews about Tom (the owner) on Citysearch. Those reviews were right on! I came in, read him my checklist, and let him go to work. He completely fixed my hair and did exactly what I wanted. Perfect! I've been going there now for almost 2 years and am always very happy with my cuts. He's been cutting hair for years and is a true master. Cutting hair is truly an art to him and you can see it in his technique, precision, and excellent consultations. If you're new to the area like I was or just need a new hairdresser, I highly recommend him. Tom is the best!! more

I had frequented several salons in the Santa Monica area for years, Ambiance, a full service salon, is by far the best I've been to. Everyone is extremely nice and accommodating. I've never had a place where each time my haircut has come out perfect. If you can, request Lora for your apointment or walkin. You won't be disappointed. TBS more

I have curly hair and its hard to layer. Tommy at Ambiance was the first to get my layers so they fell right. I will never go somewhere unfamiliar and get a bad cut again. \r Also the eyebrow girl knows exactly how to shape my eyebrows to my face and that is really hard to find. \r I recommend highly!!! more

A salon that is even pet friendly. They insisted my dog could come in and sit beside me even though he was perfectly fine waiting tied up outside. Then they smothered him with petting and treats. Not to mention they give the best haircut I have ever had in my entire life. I am not sure how to describe the technique except they go through like 3 different stages (not just once or twice like most salons.) After an invigorating shampoo, they then do first the blunt cut, then they go through your entire head and layer it, and then finally, go through all your hair again to texturize it with. Of course they finish with a blow dry and style, so it is like getting 5 treatments in one! This is the ONLY salon where I have gone two years in a row and it does not matter if I don't know who is doing my hair because the owner Tom has trained them all to do hair awesomely... more

For the past three years, I have dreaded going to a hair salon. I did the whole coloring at home thing until my hair was like a bird's nest. After my recent ""chop job"" I decided to read some reviews online and that is how I found Tom at Ambiance Hair Studio. I went in with rather frizzy, frazzled hair and came out with a beautiful new bouncy, shiny style that took years off me (so my husband says!). I have been getting my hair cut by Tommy for a while and I love him! Everytime I try to take a short cut with a cheaper salon or cut my hair myself (what an idiot) I have to get back to Tommy to fix my blunders. He has made my hair look fantastic for as long as I've been going to him and I am still getting compliments on the cut. Plus he's a really nice, professional and he really cares about his customers. Went to Ambiance with out an appointment and Lora was my stylist. She listened to me as I explained what I wanted, a cut and style, a last minute emergency. All came out perfect.\r \r After years of telling stylists what I wanted and always \r ended up disappointed.\r \r It was refreshing to have a stylist actually listen and do a great job. \r GO LORA Pros: Best stylist ever. more

The owner Tom is an artist, and a true magician with hair. I have fine, curly, shoulder-length hair. I like to keep it low-maintenance, and I don't want to have to spend hours styling it. Tom cuts it every 6 weeks, and all I have to do is get out of the shower and let my hair dry. Tom advised me on great products to use, which keep my hair in good condition and looking good. I tried many hairdressers when I moved to L.A. from Paris -- none of them were satisfactory. I walked into Ambiance by chance 6 years ago, and have never looked back since. During my many visits, I have seen all sorts of people walk in, including the hair-challenged type: they always walk out looking good, whether they are hip youngsters or old ladies. Bonus: the staff is very friendly, competent, it's always easy to get an appointment, and the prices are very reasonable compared to other hairdressers on the Westside. I have enlisted my husband since: he used to go to any barber before, now he is happy to pay the price to get a fantastic haircut that makes him look great for at least 3 months. Tom at Ambiance Hair Studio did my hair color for me and it looks so natural and GREAT! It was uneven from being out in the sun and was about 3 different shades, he created my own ""personal color"" that suits me and it looks sooo natural! I just got my hair done my Melissa. My blonde hair looks amazing!! She really listened to what i wanted exactly and didnt over process or dry my hair out. I always have issues with my hair having a brassy tone and Melissa made sure to cancel all of that out. She also gave me a fabulous hair cut. Ambiance Salon has great service and their prices are beyond reasonable. I highly recommend Melissa for color and a cut- she has the perfect colorist eye. Pros: great color more

Tom just highlighted my hair and cut it and it is fabulous. I have blonde hair and I find it very difficult to find a stylist that can give me a natural color, not the trailer park blonde. Just moved to the area and needed a salon in SM. Read these other reviews and asked for Tom. He was super nice and chatty as well as talented. He listened to what I wanted and gave me a great new cut. I'm not too adventurous when it comes to trying new styles, but this was just enough to make people notice, but not stare ;) I will most likely go back! I've been going to Ambiance for almost ten years, for blonde highlights that are extremely natural and not too hard on my baby-fine hair. I'm absolutely loyal to this salon and have never had any reason to look elsewhere. The atmosphere is relaxed and the salon does not attempt to be too hip for its own good. \r I see the same friendly stylists at Ambiance every month and it feels like home. My regular stylist is Tom (the most experienced of the bunch) and I have also used Louis, who is excellent as well. Louis was a total sweetheart when I brought in my six-year-old daughter for a haircut. He made her feel comfortable and kept her entertained while I had my highlights done. Regardless of what stylist you use, Louis is the guy you want to wash out your hair at the sink. With his muscular build and strong hands, you get a hairwash and a fabulous scalp massage at the same time. I always find a 2 hour meter available behind the building, so there is no added stress trying to park on busy Main Street, or worrying about not having enough time on my meter. The salon has a great selection of the latest hair products, which are fun to browse and I always come home with something new. I highly recommend this salon. more

After living on the west side for four years without a trustworthy hairstylist I needed to find the ""one"". Luis is that One. I went in with a bleach blonde un-natural hair style that wasn't working out so well. I wanted to go back to more of my natural shade of hair color although I wanted to keep some highlights for summer. Not only did they discuss what I wanted to determine what I needed, but they involved me in the discussion the whole time. They ended up getting out of me exactly what I meant and gave me exactly that! My hair color is the best it's ever been... better than natural ha. I love my hair and I love ambiance. THANKS! What?! A charming, attractive, male hairstylist that's not gay?!? From now on Luis Franco is the only man I will let touch my hair. I wasn't really sure what I wanted, and the things i did want all contradicted each other. Luis was patient, thorough, and did an amazing job- i love my hair! He also told me what products I needed to achieve the results I was after and they are fantastic (in the past, I've been talked into expensive items that don't work with my hair... not this time). After having a bad experience at another local salon, I decided to try Ambiance after the seeing the rave reviews. Luis was amazing--gave me a great cut & color! I especially enjoyed all of the insight and expertise that he shared with me to keep my hair healthy and strong. Tom even offered to put money in my meter when it ran out.
