Worst

My husband and I ate lunch at Amber, May 29th 2007. Pros: Good wine list, pork salad, friendly wait staff Cons: Food inconsistant and downright boring

On the skids / Big expensive waste. Here's why: 11/9/2008

WINE: By the glass or wine flight offerings: When's the last time you paid $9 a glass for a bottle that sells for $12.49 at Costco? That's nearly 75% of the bottle price for a single glass. Very limited choices by the glass. more

Watch out for overcharges, small portion, rush service 1/9/2007

Our party of 6 spent New Year Eve 2006 at Amber Bistro. The fixed menu was limited. The portion was small. We did not find any tuna in the tuna tata, and the soup was cold with a few specks of crab on top. There were a total of 4 string beans as veggies on the dinner plate. The service was rushed, the waitress could not remember who ordered what. They kept trying to remove our plates while we were still chewing. We were seated at 6:15pm, and we were done by 7:30pm. And that includes coffee which was served without splenda, and it was extremely rushed. To top of f the experience, we were over charged $32.00 when the American Express bill came. When we called the restaurant, the manager initially denied it and then later admitted someone added $32.00 to the total we already signed. He had no idea who put in the additional $32.00 I would not recommend the restaurant for the food, service or overcharges. more

Highly recommend Amber 12/5/2006

Went to Amber with a group of 8 people and had a wonderful evening. The service was excellent. The host was so friendly and made us feel like the most important table in the place. Absolutely loved short ribs with chocolate cabernet sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The curry salmon baked in a claypot was incredible! It was layered with spicy flavors and there was lots of extra sauce (love that!). Dark chocolate mousse was divine and sinful and apple crisp with cranberries was yummy with vanilla ice cream. Also loved the wine list. We ordered three bottles of Silver Oak Cabernet because we could actually afford it. A great night was had by all! We'll definitely go back again and again. Pros: Great food, beautiful room, free valet parking more

Filet of FAT 10/31/2006

I'd been to Amber before many times for drinks with the girls. This time I'm entertaining an out-of-town friend who is a self-proclaimed ""foodie"". We have a couple wines, pretty nice. Server checks on us FIVE times while we're deciding on our starters. It's a Tuesday night so it's quiet. I have the Crab Tower. Tasty. More ""checking"" on us by the server. Annoying. Still quiet. I decide on Filet Mignon, which, in my opinion, is hard to fail unless you're at Sizzler. The potatoes, mashed, are more like soup. Very watery. Server is still ""checking"". Really annoying. The Baby Bok Choy was quite wilted. Okay, try a Cab with the meat. Cab is great. Meat is decidedly not. I have NEVER (even in my young adulthood at Sizzler) had a more fat-riddled beef portion in my life. I didn't even think about it until I looked down and my plate was full of fat but I didn't feel as though I'd eaten. Server comes around asking about dessert. I told her the Filet was fatty and she said, ""It's Tuesday and the kitchen may not be on their toes."" On their toes? Wow! In truth, the only nourishment I got was the Crab Tower and the Vino. I won't go back. Not even for a drink. Pros: Valet parking (the valet fellows were quite polite); Very pretty environment, short but nice wine list Cons: FAT meat, soupy potatoes, wilted Bok Choy more
