I don't know where to begin to describe my experience with Alternative Health Care and Dr. John Wertin. First, I would like to say the neighborhood is simply horrible. I did not really feel safe getting out of my car. When I made my appointment the receptionist was very unprofessional. She wasn't rude but had no idea if they accepted my insurance. Stated that she had a list but just didn't know where it was. When I asked about x-rays she said they generally didn't do them but it all depended on ""how bad my owies were"". Every other word was ""sweet"" or ""cool"" or ""awesome"".\r
I really preferred a Saturday appointment but was told Dr. John only took emergency appointments on Saturday. I asked for the next week and was told that Dr. John would be closed because he was on jury duty.\r
I did make an appointment for the following week mostly out of morbid curiosity at this point. Once I got the courage to get out of my car I was approached by a vagrant asking for money. When I told the receptionist about it she just laughed and said they were always around there and often came inside. Dr. Wertin was not there at my appointment time. The receptionist, Loretta, said he had to run home for a few minutes. After I waited 20 minutes she attempted to reach him on his cell phone but he didn't answer. The office area is very small so I could hear everything and Loretta had no problems speaking to me about the situation which I found interesting but unprofessional. Forty minutes after my appointment time Dr. Wertin finally made an appearance. He apologized briefly then escorted me to the adjustment room. Without asking me where my pain was or why I was there he began to give me an adjustment. I requested x-rays and was told they were not necessary. Dr. Wertin himself was a huge let down. I don't want to be mean or cruel but I have no faith in a medical professional who wants to give me information on nutrition and excercise when he is at least 300 lbs overweight. His clothing was wrinkled and had food stains on his shirt. He reeked of onions and had food crumbs in his facial hair. Extremely unprofessional and nothing about the experience made me want to return to his office. I had gone because a friend had told me he had helped her husband with back pain. They were never able to tell me if they took my insurance so they said they would find out and bill me. I never heard anything from them so my husband and I eventually went there in person. Although the sign clearly stated it was business hours ( 11 am on Friday), no one was there and there was nothing posted to indicate why or when someone would return. If you are looking for a chiropractic clinic I strongly urge you to go someplace else.
Pros: no waiting
Cons: bad neighborhood, unprofessional staff,
