Best Vet in Town!!! 11/12/2008

I am a first time pet owner who just purchased a new puppy. The staff at Alta Rancho was very informative and very patient with all of my questions. They wrote out a schedule for my puppies shots and gave me handouts about how to care for my new puppy. The dr was great and very friendly. I would definitely recommend this Pet hospital to anyone!! more

AMAZING STAFF!! 11/6/2008

I have a 7 year old english bulldog named Bella that has had chronic skin problems and rashes all over her body. A friend had referred me to Alta Rancho Pet Hospital after they had treated her pet for allergies so I called and they were able to see me the same day for an exam. The technicians were great in giving me advice in general maintenance care for Bella and Dr. Henderson was amazing, she explained everything about allergies so clearly to me. After testing my pet for allergies, we were able to start her on weekly allergy injections and medicated shampoo baths, which have helped so much! I had always felt so bad for Bella because she seemed so miserable scratching and with all of the skin infections that she had from itching so much. I am so grateful to Dr. Henderson and her staff for all of their care, they are always so helpful to me when I call and really care about my pet. I can't imagine ever taking Bella or any of my other dogs to anyone else! Pros: flexible schedule, very informative, caring and friendly staff more

Wonderful!! 11/5/2008

I found this animal hopsital when my puppy started getting bald spots. I was so worried about her and the staff assured me that she would be ok. She is a little on the grumpy side so i was nervous about taking her places, but she seemed to love everyone there. It turned out that she had mange. They were very informative and we both were very pleased with everyone there. We have been coming here for years now and they are like her second family!! more

Awesome VET! 9/15/2008

This place was wonderful. I not only felt comfortable when leaving my animals there, but I enjoyed the friendly staff as well. They not only take really good care of the animals, but get to know them as well. What more can you ask for from a vet? more

Questionable 8/18/2008

We lost our cat there after the doctor tried to perform an exploratory surgery on him. We feel the doctor did not listen to us when we said we thought he was too weak to have surgery and he reassured us he would be fine. Please listen to your own heart and judgment when you feel something in your gut, stay with it and be firm, don't let vets or doctors tell you something you know in your heart about your own pet/family member. You know them more than anyone. I think they were trying to do what THEY thought was best for him but they really need to listen to the owners seriously first and consider that before moving forward. Take caution. I miss my baby and would have rather let him pass in my arms than on a table around strangers. more

You can do a whole lot better than Alta Rancho 3/2/2008

I originally wrote a rave review for this practice but things turned sour very quickly when they insisted that my chronically ill dogs not only be vaccinated but be vaccinated annually. I was stunned considering an veterinary internal medicine specialist recommended against vaccinating my dogs at all and provided me with a waiver for city licensing purposes. Dr. Shufer and Henderson point blank told me that should my dogs have an emergency, they would not admit them without current vaccinations. Considering all 27 veterinary teaching hospitals in Northern America have adopted revised guidelines which requires that most vaccines be given every three years, there is absolutely no excuse for placing a dog at risk for the sake of money. The last I heard, Alta Rancho was still vaccinating annually which in my opinion is unconscienable. Additionally, you may want to think twice before letting Dr. Shufer perform surgery on your pet. I was hoping that when my dog's internal stitches blew more

A Caring Staff 12/7/2005

I was greeted warmly by a friendly staff who immediately focused on my Golden Retriever who was very agitated. We were seen by Dr. Shufer almost immediately and he had a wonderful bedside manner. He put both myself and "Goldy" at ease and was extremely professional. He made excellent recommendations and carefully explained all my options. The outcome could not have been better and I would have no reservations whatsoever about referring other pet owners to Alta Rancho. more

I am confident that they will take care of my pets. 3/1/2005

I have four cats and one lizard who have all visited this facility. My cats have had their shots there and two of them have been fixed at this office. The staff is very friendly and seem to truly care about your pet. They even have called my home to check on them after surgery to make sure everything is going okay. They also have called to remind me that my pets are due for their follow-up appointments or shots. Not every pet hospital or vet will see reptiles but this facility does and took my lizard on an emergency appointment. She ended up being fine and they told me she was the best looking 'sick' lizard they ever saw! I don't feel they are the cheapest around but I'm sure they are competative in their pricing. more
