Noisy; Bad Prices for Bad Food 11/15/2008

Although the service was friendly and the layout was open but intimate, the environment was extremely loud - the music alone made it difficult to hear the person next to me. The food was overcooked and uncreatively spiced, and they charged $11 for a martini that tasted like a glass of bottom-shelf vodka with an olive thrown in. I would absolutely not return. Instead, I recommend Cafe Izmir, also on Greenville - no belly dancers, unfortunately, but great Turkish coffee. Pros: friendly staff, multi-level design Cons: loud, slow, overpriced, marginal food, appalling mixed drinks more

Most exciting culture experience ever!!! 6/7/2008

On Wednesday June 4, 2008 I joined many of my friends at Al-Amir for dinner and show. The food was great. By far the best Lebanese food I had ever tasted. Our large group was taken care of by two young servers who provide us with both fun and unobtrusive service. On top of it all, the belly dancer was amazing! The show seemed of an authentic nature. After dinner the belly dancer and servers invited us for a free Belly dancing class were my friends and I learned a few new belly dancing tricks. I TOTALLY recommend this place to anyone. It is a fun place and will be back again. more

UNHAPPY 3/20/2008

WILL NEVER GO BACK, EVEN IF ITS FREE!!!!!!! Not a good experience at all. I took my son on a Wed. night expecting belly dancing, since thats what the website states. First of all didn't even think the place was open, nobody greeted us at the door, we stood there for several minutes before seeing anyone. Second, we were informed NO BELLY DANCING on WED NITES anymore. Third, the management was HORRIBLE. I bought a $50 gift certificate online expecting to get to use it, and the manager only wanted to honor it for $30 and tried handling it in a VERY UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER. Fourth, food was just ok, not worth the money at all. \r Restaurant atmosphere has potential, its the management that makes this place CRAPPY!!!!\r Waitress was nice, she mentioned to us that they have not had much business lately and I can definetly see why. Everyone in my party was very disappointed, not what you would expect by their web-site. \r DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\r Pros: waitress, building has a nice set up Cons: MANAGEMENT, PRICE, WEB-SITE IS DECEIVING more

eh 7/21/2007

The place was just eh. We went here for the belly dancing, I even made a reservation. They put us upstairs where you really couldn't see the belly dancing. I was pretty disappointed in the food. I was expecting something great for the prices. Not only was the food boring, it was also small. The place is old, stale, and the sound system was really weak. The good thing about it was the hummus and the belly dancer did come up the stairs and do a small show. If you like the more traditional; boring food and dance, then this is your place! If not, I recommend Stratos Taverna instead. Food is better, they have coupons, and Saturday nights have 2 belly dancing shows with a great sound system. Pros: Traditional dancing. Cons: Overpriced, Bad Ambiance. more

Not exactly a college crowd 7/20/2006

After hearing an ad on kiss fm, we assumed it would be a fun friday night out.\r \r Be warned to make a reservation, and get there before ten... or pay a $10 cover\r the food is nothing special, and definitely overpriced, $12-$20\r drinks are overpriced $5 domestic beer\r the belly dancers were amusing\r the crowd however consisted of 30-40 year olds who were ready to dance Pros: nice inside, friendly staff, belly dancers and hookahs Cons: over priced, older crowd more
