Went to Akina's last night and must say that they have very fresh delicious Thai food - some of the best I've had in the suburbs. The decor and restaurant in general was very intimate and cozy. The service was slow at times, but very friendly. The other reviewer commented on not having a bar, and I agree - they could stand to build one. Their online menu boasts a decent wine/beer list at excellent prices, but since I didn't drink I can't comment on it further. Overall, I feel that as Elgin revitalizes itself, this place will become more and more popular, although there were only two other couples in the restaurant last night and I did wonder how they manage to stay open. With luxury condos being built across the street in the Fountain Square area of Elgin, however, they will surely be popular once that building is occupied! People in the Elgin area should come experience this restaurant, support the revitalization of downtown, and eat at a place with definite character! Try the Akina spring rolls with shrimp - fresh, delicious, and healthy!
Pros: Fresh Thai Cuisine, Healthy, Intimate Space
Cons: Needs a bar, needs publicity for fear of them closing
