I purchased a gift certificate at a silent auction for services with Christina never having heard of Akada. This was the best purchase as she is very talented and has done very well with my hair. She really listened to what I wanted or better what I didn't want. Plus she is great with hair color novices such as myself especially when I wanted to to keep it fairly natural blonde just a bit sassier. Her fees are reasonable which is extremely refreshing. I booked another appointment at the end of the first visit and have remained there since. I am relocating out of state and wish I could take her with me. The front desk staff is pleasant and I like the reminder phone calls. Plus the overall environment of the salon is professional but warm at the same time. Pros: Refreshments, no real wait times for your stylist Cons: Parking sometimes can be challenging and I like to put tips on credit card for my ease more

5 star service without pretension! 6/19/2008

I highly recommend Amy if you are looking for a stylist who will really listen to your wants/needs; especially when it pertains to color. She took the time to really listen to what I wanted and made sure to look at the whole picture (personality, skin tone, eye color, etc) before determining the right color/highlights for me. I have never encountered a stylist who has taken that much time with me before doing anything with my hair. Overall, the atmosphere of the salon is lovely and completely free of any pretension. more

best cut ever! 6/2/2008

I found Akada after reading about it here on city search. I was hoping that I would want to write a review after I went. I loved it, Amy did an awesome job of listening and understanding what I wanted. I went in not knowing exactly what I did want but I did know what I didnt want. I gave her a laundry list of ways that I didnt want my hair to turn out and she made it wonderful. I will def. go back. I don't think I've ever had such a great cut experience. more

Best Hair Salon in Columbus area 3/4/2008

I found the Akada salon based on the reviews here on Columbus Citysearch and couldn't be happier! My daughter was on her college spring break and I wanted to take her with me to a new salon to get our hair cut and styled. We had Amy and Jamie for our stylists. We brought pictures of our favorite hairstyle and they delivered exactly what we asked for. We both are thrilled with the best haircuts we ever had! I have long and thick wavy and at times frizzy hair and Amy layered it into a beautiful style that is easy to manage. Amy took her time and answered all my questions about how to style and manage my new hairstyle at home. I went back a week after my first visit for color and highlights and Amy did an equally amazing job. I also love the Eufora natural hair products that they use and sell at this salon. The stylists here are very talented and I would consider them hair artists and in the top in their chosen field! Customer service here is the best I have ever experienced at a hair salon. Best hair cut ever! 2/27/2008

I thought I had unmanagable frizzy curly hair. I tried everything and then I found Amy at Akada Hair Salon by looking on the internet for hair salon's in columbus. I found some reviews that said she was great with curly/wavy/frizzy hair and on their website it said that they help people figure out what style works for them and give advice and tips on how to do it yourself at home. When I got there they offered me refreshments and I only had to wait a few minutes. I loved the atmosphere! Amy was everything the reviews said. She explained everything she was doing after the cut, so that I would be able to figure out how to do it myself at home. I tried it for myself this morning and it was really pretty easy since I now knew what I was doing. It looks fabulous! All my friends and coworkers were amazed at the transformation. I have an important business meeting tomorrow and now I have the confidence that I will be looking good! Thanks so much Amy! I'm reccomending you to all my friends. The most positive hair cut experience I have ever had. 2/6/2008

I had a fantastic first experience at Akada. I'm new to Columbus and picked Akada based on the reviews I read here. I would say that I am in a subgroup of customers that stylist's must find stressful - very picky, very worried (about hating the cut/it's too short/ not short enough) and anxious, but won't say that I'm not happy and leave the salon swearing I'll never go back. :) I saw Amy, and she was absolutely excellent. I was really happy with her consultation. She took time to communicate what we could do with my hair, made suggestions and explained why she thought it would compliment my face shape/hair type, showed me some pictures, and said that we could keep changing it as the cut went on until it suited my tastes. This was completely reassuring and took away the uncertainty and anxiety I have about getting my hair done. Usually I have a hard time telling the stylist if I don't like it, but because of the consultation, I felt more comfortable giving my opinion. At the end of the cut, it looked fantastic, but still wasn't as short as I wanted, so she took off another inch no problem. I am definitely going back. Pros: They do great consultations and spend much time with you, easy to get an appt Cons: Cash tip only, street parking only - which can get very busy more

Great color! 2/1/2008

I am not an easy customer! I go from coloring my hair black to blonde all the time and I have had a really hard time finding someone who can help me with my indecisiveness. Amy at Akada understood and was willing and able to help me out. She did a great job on my color and kept my hair in good condition...which is hard to do since I have that frizzy, dry hair that must be flat ironed!! I am hard to please, but Amy did it wonderfully. talented, friendly staff; comfortable atmosphere 1/9/2008

I consider a trip to Akada a day out. Tammy has been my stylist for over 10 years. I have never had a hair cut I didn't like. I actually followed her to Akada from her previous salon. Although the salon is not near my home, I make the trip because I trust Tammy 100% with my hair. If I ask for a specific cut, I get it. Often times, I give her an idea and I let her give me a cut that will suit my looks and lifestyle. Tammy knows I am a busy mom, so she always takes the time to give me a hair cut that will grow out nicely in case I don't get back in to see her for a while. Wow! I've been going to Tammy for almost two years now. She is very talented and has gone to some amazing classes all around the world. She has seen me through very short hair to medium length and I always leave happy. Tammy is very straight forward with what will and what won't work with my hair, I like that and appreciate her honesty. She always has new ideas about my color and they are always very cutting edge and yet easy for me to maintain since I don't have a lot of time to always get it done. Pros: love the reminder calls. Best Hair Salon in Central Ohio 10/14/2007

I've been to many salons, and had many haircuts, but when you've been to Akada, every other shop pales in comparison. I have had cut and color done by Anjel, and most recently, a cut by John. All I can say is ""WOW""! My hair has never looked better. My daughter has extremely wavy hair and her hair usually gets butchered. I took her to John, and now she's a client forever. John and all the stylists have an attention to detail that is unmatched. They cut your hair in a way that works with it's natural tendencies and quirks, rather than trying to ""fight"" them. If you're not 100% happy with your current cut and/or color, then GO TO AKADA. They are the best at what they do, and their service and salon are truly exceptional. Your best hair ever is only a phone call away 8/11/2007

I found Akada salon using citysearch and I am so glad I did. Even though the salon provides top quality services it has a real inviting and friendly atmosphere unlike other high end salons where the atmosphere is cold and snobbish. I went to Amy and got the best cut and color I've ever had! I've never had anyone take so much time placing the color and perfecting the cut. She took time to talk to me about my hair type and my preferences. She also spent so much time perfecting the cut after my hair was dry. Everyone loves my new hair -- even people I've never met before. I'd highly recommend this salon, especially Amy, to everyone. I will definately be going back! more

Amy - fabulous with curly hair clients! 7/25/2007

I found Akada based on a recommendation from a naturally curly hair website. I had my hair cut by Amy and she is fabulous! I was so nervous about finding a new hairstlyist after mine moved out of town. I was so put at ease when she did my consultation prior to cutting my hair. She had great suggestions - I felt like she really took my hair and curls into consideration :) I feel like I'm able to go longer between cuts because the cut she gave me worked so well with my curls. She's amazing! The staff at the salon has always been plesant on the phone and when I enter the salon they are always welcoming and always offer something to drink. I highly recommend Akada and especially Amy! Pros: Amy is great with girly girls! more

I have been going to John since he started at Akada, and I've always been very happy with his creative ideas for my cuts and occasional color. Last Thursday he gave me one of my favorite cuts! He gave me exactly what I asked for, while still keeping in mind my hair type and personal style needs. Pros: location, creativity, always takes time to teach me as he works, great service! more

Best Dry Cut!!! 5/31/2007

I just moved here from Philadelphia and was unsure where to go. I was very pleased with my service at Akada! The best part was that my stylist Amy cut my hair dry which was what I was looking for to begin with. She was attentive and listened to what I was looking for and my hair looks great. Great haircuts, cool vibe 5/21/2007

I've gone to Anjel for over 17 years and she is wonderful -- her haircuts and color are always top notch and you leave the salon feeling like a million bucks. The entire salon staff is friendly, professional and cutting edge. They always seem to be sharing new methods for hair cutting, color and make up application with their clients. The salon has a very friendly, professional, unpretentious, cool vibe. I have recommended family and friends to the salon -- everyone agrees they are the best around.
