Aj Spurs Saloon & Dining

Our daughter bought us a gift certificate to AJ Spurs in Templeton. We were thrilled at how wonderfully we were treated and how much food they brought us. It was absolutely delicious. I am a cook for a large family and I know good food. This was great! What a treat to be the one who gets to enjoy being served for a change. Manager was wonderful and our waitress superb. We'll be back. It's now our favorite restaurant to bring family members for special occasions. WOW! more

Steak lover's paradise...Crusing up the 101 a couple of weeks ago we stopped at one of our favorite old spots - AJ Spurs in Templeton-authentic old west cuisine where some of the patrons actually wear spurs...Beans and soup were placed as soon as we were seated! The soup is great, but the steaks, OMG! my husband had the Ribeye and I, the filet. We were both in heaven. The staff is generally friendly and upbeat but the server we had (can't remember her name) was especially attentive which only enhanced our dining experience. She seemed so happy to be there...and took extra strides to make sure that we were completly satisfied. We will be back as soon as we can!!! Nice job, AJ's more

2/12/11 went to AJ's for dinner, had not been there in over 1 year. First, our parties of 5, all adults, were crammed into a booth for 4 people max. We all went with it and did not complain because it was the Saturday before Valentine's, so we knew it was a busy night Long story short, service was terrible, steaks undercooked, manager Stacy was professional immature, a very bad combination for a restaurant in this economy. She politely told us that ""she was spending time dealing with us"" and our concerns when she was needed up front. I am sorry; we must be confused that every customer matters! This experience left all 5 of us knowing we will never return to AJ Spurs. Here is the great news, the one thing we all have left and control over, as Americans, and we get to vote with our wallets! I choose not to spend my money at AJ Spurs! more

I took my husband there for the first time and he is in love with this place. He is an avid hunter and loved checking out all the mounts...Thrilled him to death. It is definitley a mans-man place. My husband and I and have been anxious to try this restaurant. Tonight ordered the rib eye dinner with a side of ribs with the intention of sharing the meal. Our first shock was they wanted almost $10 a plate to share. Our salads came. They were frozen restaurant mix with a dressing that was not half bad. Then our steak and ribs came. Ribs tasted like they had been boiled until soup a few weeks ago and then slathered with a sweet sauce under the broiler. Rib steak tasted like a fatty piece of meat had been pan fried. Our vegetables were definitely a Costco mix thrown into a microwave or steamer with no seasonings. Maybe some of you like it, but this is not how we eat. We noticed the entire restuarant including chef looked like it was run by kids. I think they should get the owner back in the kitchen. Beautiful spot and such a waste. I was there some 3 years ago once when I was in the area for some work., and I loved the place.. I had never been to a saloon before, so, the decor was something that enthralled me.. Had never been to a palce that had heads mounted at the bar.. We were a bunch of people, so, we got to use their private room. Pros: Amazing Experience more

my family has been going to this restaurant for at least 15 years or so. unfortunately, nothing has changed since then including the iceberg lettuce salad out of a bag, the huge portions of ""side"" dishes that are mediocre at best. a few years ago we finally decided it was time to move on to better restaurants that serve fresh, local food. the clincher for me was my cosmopolitan that was served in a boot over ice, argh! Everytime I find myself anywhere near Solvang or Templeton this place is a must. Great food, and great atmosphere. Starts with great salad and tasty soup, next comes your entree. Never been disappointed with my food here. Finally, they finish you off with a free after dinner drink or Rootbeer float. Highly recommend the rootbeer float if you're somehow able to consume any more food.
