An excellent little French bistro in a nondescript strip mall off PCH. Inconsistency has not been an issue....

Exquisite food at a cost 3/17/2007

We chose Aimee's for a romantic dinner for 2. We made reservation, but when we arrived we weren't on the books. It didn't turn out to be a problem because they had a free table. We started off with a bottle of the rose from Provence and my wife ordered the beet salad while I had the calamari. The beet salad was perfectly balanced between the bite of the goat cheese and creme fraiche and the sweet earthiness of the beets. There was honey and walnuts around the edge of the plate which completed this fantastic entree. The calamari was crisp, light, perfectly cooked and was served with a spicy, garlicky Moroccan tomato sauce which once again was the perfect compliment.\r \r For the main course we opted for the traditional bouillabaisse and I took the daily special filet mignon. The bouillabaisse was full of fresh seafood in a savory broth and was served with two small toasts with garlic rouix to dip into the soup. We asked the waiter's recommendation for wine and he brought a delicious French white. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, topped with mashed potatoes and garnish with a dark, savory sauce drizzled around the edge of the plate.\r \r Everything was well presented and delicious. Our kind waiter brought some dessert wine for dessert as we were too stuffed to attempt anything on the dessert tray (even though they all looked tempting). The prices were moderately high, but at the end of the meal I felt like I had got what I paid for. The inside of the restaurant is a bit cramped, but the great food and the accordion player in the corner provided a welcomed, if not a bit cliche, escape to the streets of Paris. We would recommend this place for a special night out.\r Pros: Food, Knowledgeable wait staff Cons: Price, Crowded inside more

food is amazing but prices too high 8/25/2006

It's a small intimate atmosphere and the staff and owner are all very welcoming and warm. The food is exquisite. But for what it 's worth, I just think the prices are a little too high. Pros: wonderful atmosphere, great service, great food Cons: too expensive more

Wonderful French Experience 5/6/2006

The food at the unpretentious little bistro is simply amazing. I tried my first fois gras there and it was such a delight! We had scallops in the appetizer and also an entree dish. I've never had such tasty scallops before - they melted in my mouth unlike others I've had that are so rubbery. The dining experience at Aimee's is intimate because Aimee is so personable with everyone. She treats you like you're her favorite. There's even a live accordian player adding to the atomosphere. This is a gem in the South Bay area! Bon Apetit! more

Aimees has gone downhill. I ate here two years ago and it was fabulous! But when I tried it again I was VERY disappointed. The service had gone downhill. the food was too salty, overcooked and drenched in butter. I can not say that I would go back again. more
