We have had a wonderful experience with Abrazo. Adoption is always a roller coaster ride - at least in our experience, but the ladies of Abrazo have been there for us and we are confident that the adoption we completed through them was above all ethical. We have a wonderful relationship with our son's birth family who have truly become a part of ours. The entire Abrazo community (staff and the online forum family) have been nothing but supportive of us on our journey. We couldn't have chosen a better agency and now we are back and hoping to adopt again. more

I could not have higher praise for this amazing adoption agency! We have been part of their adoptive community for eight years. Our daughters, both adopted through Abrazo, are 7 and 4. Not only do they build a wonderful supportive community for adoptive families, but they have a passionate commitment to work with and support birthfamilies at all stages of placement and for years to come. Their commitment to the adoption experience is admirable and heartfelt. I strongly recommend them. more

We used Abrazo and initially thought it was great. That was before we became part of the family. Then, we quickly realized there were some deep-rooted scary issues. I would not recommend this agency. There are plenty of more respectable, morally sound and loving agencies to choose from. Parents beware... more

Finding the right adoption agency is the toughest part. Abrazo was the right agency! Our sweetheart is 4 years old now. more

AMAZING! We were so blessed to find the angels at Abrazo. We used them four years ago after struggling with heart breaking infertility. We did not know much about adoption, but Abrazo helped us to learn the process and the power of open adoption. Soon we were holding our daughter in our arms the first time. more

We had a wonderful adoption experience with Abrazo. They treated us with respect and we know that our adoption was handled with integrity and was done ethically. We are now back for our back for our second adoption. more

We had a good experience with Abrazo. We have a beautiful daughter and it took only 9 months from the time we went through Orientation. Adopting through another agency made me appreciate Abrazo even more. They handled everything after placement and made things so easy for us. I recommend them everytime I am asked. more

We had a very good experience adopting our children through Abrazo. After orientation weekend we felt equipped and prepared for the journey ahead. We appreciate the community we have found on the online forum and through regional gatherings and the annual Camp Abrazo. True, Abrazo is probably not for everyone, but if you are looking for an ethical, open adoption then this may be the place for you. more

Grateful for the Experience 5/21/2012

This agency is hands down the best thing that has ever happened to us. They were caring, easy to work with, and always let us know exactly what we needed to do to have the best possible adoption experience. Through their efforts we were able to adopt our two daughters, and I wouldn't change a thing about either journey. If you're looking for an agnecy that is truly invested in their clients, this is the agency for you. more

Disgraceful 4/27/2012

It has been 10 years since we dealt with this outfit. The Executive Director is THE problem with the place. We escaped, but please don't find yourself in the same spot. Do not use Abrazo Adoption Associates. Unfortunately, I have to give at lease 1 star to publish the review. more

Ethical Agency 11/8/2011

If you're reading this review, it's probably because you're considering whether Abrazo is the right agency for you as you start your adoption journey. We chose Abrazo based on a variety of reasons, but their short wait time is honestly what sparked our interest first. Later, we found amazing infertility support, the forum (the best open adoption resource) and an agency that supported open adoption and taught us why we should feel passionate about what openness could bring to our future child. I was educated and I felt my eyes opening more

Wonderful, kind, caring agency for all involved! 9/19/2009

We love this agency. The women who devote their lives to this work are wonderful, professional and compassionate (to all involved in the adoption triad). I would recommend this agency to anyone who has an open mind and is willing to strive to keep their lines of communication open with their child's birthfamily long after placement and finalization. Pros: Birthparents and Adoptive Parents have a voice here! more

Cold and unprofessional 9/12/2009

It was truly unbelievable the level of attitude we experience from the ladies of Abrazo. It was extremely unprofessional and at time drove us to tears. I would have to fully agree with Chasll that on more then one occasion was almost hostile having to work with them. Turn times are a hole other story. Pros: Sadly none Cons: Rude and unprofessional staff more

Great agency, good folks. Good results!!! 8/17/2009

Me and my wife had a bad time with another place in town but liked the gals at Abrazo. The mom of the baby we got just couldn't say enough good things about them. They try hard to look out for everybody. But you have to be ok with open adoption there. They don't put up with people who don't follow the rules, that's for sure. Pros: Nice staff. Quick turnaround. Cons: Have to wait 6 months to start another adoption. more

Unfriendly Upper management 10/1/2008

Have had a bad experience with this agency mostly with respect to tone and attitude which has been almost hostile at times for no reason. more

Owner Message
  • Abrazo Adoption Associates is a private, nonprofit child-placement agency serving the needs of birthparents, children and adopting parents nationwide. Licensed by the State of Texas, Abrazo specializes in open adoptions, in which the agency, birthparents and adopting parents work together to make loving plans for their childrens' futures.

We offer immediate placement for infants and toddlers. Abrazo Adoption Associates also offers free maternity support before and after placement, 24 hour helpline, counseling, housing, and medical care.

For our faithful staff, adoption isn't just a job, it's our mission. And the people we work for aren't just our clients, they're also our friends, which means we put our hearts and souls into what we do for them. (For you.) Because we know it matters. We like to think that we are blessed with the best birthparents and the best adopting families, and the proof is in the happy, healthy faces of the precious children entrusted to our care.

Let's be honest: for far too long, adoption agencies have been known for taking over peoples' lives, judging them by outdated standards and depriving folks of control over their own destinies. At Abrazo, we're working to change that--to educate, encourage and support our clients as they make their own best decisions. It's help you can trust, because you deserve the best.

In addition to quality placement services, we offer a number of programs and events designed to support our clients before and after placement. From Parents of Tomorrow weekends to the Allegretti-Mitchard Birthparent Scholarship Fund, from the Abrazo Adoption Institute series to the Angel Account (a charity program which aids those with special needs in the adoption process), we do our best to advocate for and enhance our adoption community. Our birthparent sorority, Persona Grata, facilitates ongoing support and peer counseling for our beloved network of birthparent alumni from coast to coast. And our biannual agency newsletter, Affinity, helps keep the greater Abrazo family and affiliated professionals informed of opportunities and developments and connected with each other.

We know there's no shortage of adoption resources out there. And we know our program isn't necessarily the right one for everyone. We're glad you're checking out your options, and we wish you Godspeed in your journey, wherever it takes you. Abrazo is a Spanish word which means hug or embrace and this is, truly, what we're about.

Because at Abrazo, we care about children, and the people who care about them.
