At Home here 12/29/2011

I enjoyed my stay here. The staff was very helpful. Everyone one showed respect and care while I stayed. I at first was upset that I couldn't go home after my surgery. But they made me feel at home. They always had some kind of activity going on to keep you busy and your mind off of feeling sorry for yourself. If you want to feel at home away from home this is where you want to be. When you walk in there is no odor. Most facilities has an bad smell about them. more

Great Care friendly staff!!!!! 12/29/2011

I had to stay after surgery. At first I was scared about going to a nursing home. You always hear such bad stories about nursing homes. I went and just loved it! I loved the bright colors. The staff was so friendly. They treat you like you are their family. They anwsered my call light when ever it was on. The rehab department push me until I was back to full strenght. I was very happy with the care. And the food there is the best. It's not like other nursing homes. more

Great Facility, Staff, and Care for Young AND Old 6/8/2011

If I ever had to choose a nursing facility again, I would choose Abaco if it just isn?t possible to be at home. At 34 years of age, I needed to spend 6 weeks at Abaco Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility after spending months, of and on, at hospitals and ultimately having surgery. There were complications from the surgery that resulted in my being unsafe at home due to medication changes, wound management, and 24-hour medical care monitoring and assistance required. The nurses were always quick to respond and had to change my dressings several times a day. The nursing assistants went the extra mile by giving me massages to relax me and help with the pain. The physical therapists were amazing and because of their consistent attention and support, I went from being basically bed-ridden for 6 months to regaining my balance and strength enough to walk without support. Because I needed a special diet, the dietary staff brought me special foods. The doctor visited frequently and was responsive to my needs or questions. Activities staff and administration stopped by to talk and help boost my morale. I had a private room so I could easily have visitors and make it like home. I had some pretty good stories to tell my friends about my experiences at the nursing home and although I don?t want to have to repeat it anytime soon, I will remember it as a caring, safe, and pretty nice place to be when you need it. more

Abaco Rehab Gives A-1 Care and Feels Like Home 1/14/2011

When my Mother had her stroke 3 years ago, she insisted on going to Abaco, because it was close to her home. I was leery, but Mama gets her way. I have to admit, I have never regretted it. Thr staff has been outstanding to both myself, and my brother who lives out of state. Mama loves it there, and I don't think she would leave if she could The nurses have always been supportive, and one even sat and held Mom's hand for more than an hour, past the end of her shift, after my uncle, Mom's brother, died. They are quick to call when something is wrong. I have even came home to messages that"" your Mom has the sniffles, but I thought you would want to know she may be getting a cold."" It is comforting to know that I can rest easy knowing they will call if comething is wrong, although sometimes I think they go a wee bit overboard. more

HORRIBLE FACILITY!!! (WOULD GIVE 0 STARS IF ABLE) 12/28/2010

HORRIBLE FACILITY!!!! Nursing staff (mainly the STNA's) are incompetent & just flat out lazy to say the least! They refuse to assume responsibility for their own ""mistakes"" & seem to only know how to make excuses or just flat out ignore issues all together, even when those issues are repeatedly brought to their attention. ""I didn't know"" is their favorite phrase & is constantly uttered even when specific instructions are posted plain as day in the room! They (obviously) fail miserably to communicate effectively both amongst each other & with family members when it comes to changes in care plans of their residents! Their staff doesn't even follow state guidelines for care including (but not limited to) practicing Standard Precautions or providing complete & accurate documentation. For example, they will document in the resident's chart that a family member was notified of a change in the resident's care when in reality they never were.((The responsibility of the facility to notify the responsible party of any change is outlined in Ohio's Administrative Code covering nursing homes, Chapter 3721.12(A)(32))). The facility's upper management even justifies false documentation by openly admitting that their staff documents things hours before they (are supposed to) happen, leaving ample room for ""I forgot"". I'd like to know what State Code/Regulation says that's OK! When faced with complaints, this facility's same upper management becomes very defensive & argumentative, even going so far as to talk to you as if you're making things up! ""I'm up & down that hallway all of the time & have never seen (that), so I don't know what you're talking about."" Excuse me?!? Don't argue with me, just fix it! How they got to their positions with absolutely NO professionalism is beyond me! Resident safety & comfort don't seem to be of much importance to the staff at Abaco either. Without going into too much personal detail, let's just say they need further training in fall prevention & incontinence management! Unfortunately, I have had a lot of experience in the ups & downs of different Skilled Nursing Facilities in Columbus, Ohio, but NONE have disgusted me like Abaco! They truly take the care OUT of Healthcare! In short, I would NOT recommend this facility to my worst enemy & am amazed that they have only changed their name, and not been shut down completely! more
