How hard is it to get a rebate? 7/16/2009

I should have known better than to actually use ADT. It all started when we decided to go with ADT over the other companies we got quotes from. The sales representative who originally bid the job quit so we got assigned another sales rep. The new guy never returned phone calls so after two to three weeks of the nonsense I called his manager and got a new sales rep assigned. The new sales rep had the alarm installed quickly and promised a two month rebate for monitoring fees for signing up. He told me he would fill out some information for me and the rebate forms would be mailed to me after the first monitoring bill was paid. I did not receive the paperwork. So after a couple months I called and asked where the paperwork was. My call was not returned. I continued to call for about three weeks and finally had my call returned. The sales rep told me he would place a card in the mail for me with a code I could use on-line to get the promised rebate. I got the card and tried to use the code. The code was for alarms installed in December 2008, mine was installed in October 2008. Oops, no good. I called and left a message informing him about the problem. He did not return my call. I left several more messages and he finally called me back to tell me he too no longer worked for ADT. I called the manager again and explained the whole thing to him and was specific about the December 2008 vs. October 2008 problem. He told me he would take care of it. This was about 3 months ago. The manager does not return my phone calls for weeks and does not follow up. I finally talked to him and he told me he was going to speak with the rebate department and he would send me the information I need to claim my rebate. After two weeks I finally received the stuff in the mail. It was the same rebate code I received 3 to 4 months earlier for alarms installed in December 2008. I called the manager back to let him know but he has not returned my call. My monitoring contract is up in 3 months and I will not be renewing it! Pros: the alarm turns on and off Cons: 8 months and still no rebate, Sales associates do not return more

Great system, monitoring, and customer service!! 4/28/2009

The Install was quick and the system is simple to use. The sales guy had a no pressure approach. I had a six month garranty if I was not satisfied too. A $500 insurace deductable coverage and a lifetime warranty witch includes the batteries. That's great! I read Tyco bought out ADT (American District Telegraph) in the 90's and it's now over 130 years old. They protect over 25 million American's. Including 80% of the fortune 500 companies and 80% of the banks and goverment agencies. They are rated #1 in the world. I couldn't have selected a better company with a proven track record to protect my home and family. In my book ADT is number one! Pros: 5 monitoring stations, GE equipment, lifetime warranty Cons: Only $500 insurance deductable coverage (mines $1,000) more

Zero Customer Service 6/17/2008

I wish I could give ADT less than one star. We purchased a home 3 years ago with an ADT alarm system. I wish I had reviewed online ratings of alarm monitoring companies before contacting ADT for monitoring svcs. Our system appears to be between 5-10 years old. The activation went fairly well and did not require a technician's visit, though phone calls were necessary to clarify a rather ambiguous contract. A year ago, our backup battery failed, and I contacted ADT, since our monthly fee includes an extended warranty on the system. The service clerk told me the battery replacement was covered and there would be no fee. When the technician came out to install the battery, there was no charge for the battery, but there was a $25 trip charge. I thought the service clerk should have indicated the trip charge fee, but it wasn't a big deal so I paid it. This past weekend we were away overnight. When we returned home we were greeted by silence, rather than the familiar "beep, beep, beep." I immediately went to the keypad, which appeared to have no power, and would not respond to any activity. The alarm then sounded, and continued to sound, as their was no response at the keypad. I immediately called ADT, established who I was and gave my security password info. For 20 minutes or so the service clerk tried to walk me through turning off the alarm, but the system was unresponsive. I requested she send a technician out, to turn off the alarm and I was told this was not covered under the contract and I would have to pay $300+ for a call on Sunday. It seems our extended warranty only covers the system during ADT's "normal working hours," which are not on Sunday. WTF?!? For the next 4 hours, the alarm continued to go on and off. ADT assured us the Police had not been notified. The police did respond claiming they received a call from ADT. The tech. was able to get the alarm working after nearly a $400 half hour svc call. Reason for malfunction unknown. Pros: System seems to work most of the time, Technician was pleasant Cons: Poor Monitoring Service, Zero Customer Service, System problem unresolved more
