Earlier this year, A Tavola suffered fire damage and closed. I don't know if it's open again yet.
In any event...
We booked a table at A Tavola for last Valentine's Day. Now, I understand that VD is a big night for many restaurants, but I'm bothered by the trend I've seen in recent years: limited menus (are they making the food in vats?), tables shoved close together so as to seat more people at one time, much higher prices than normal, and so on.
I'm pleased to say that A Tavola didn't suffer from any of those problems. The menu choices were interesting and imaginative, and we had a booth to ourselves.
Unfortunately, though, we were finally seated for our 9:00 pm reservation at 10:20 pm. It is just not romantic to have to wait an hour and 20 minutes (with a reservation!) for the magic to begin.
So be warned: They sometimes overbook for special events.
