Nice Western Decor, Pretty Good BBQ 5/7/2009

Everyone here is extremely friendly and I like the western decor and classic country hits playing in the background. The BBQ is pretty good for California standards...but I wouldn't say that to a Texan! more

Truely the Best BBQ I've had so far 3/29/2007

I've tried a few places in Sac and several in the Bay Area and Texas. This place is just awesome. I do want to give you some expectation. The ribs are served without sauce on them. This may seem odd and eating without sauce is okay but better with sauce. What makes their ribs awesome is the way they are cooked. The meat falls off the bone easily. You will not find tons of fat cause it has cooked off. You will not find them gristly because the collagen has melted. These are perfectly smoked. So what about the sauce? They have options for you to pick. I love their hot one, best sauce anywhere. They even sell it in bottles. Since they don't pour it on, you get to choose how much sauce you want and it doesn't get wasted on the plate unless you want it. Besides the ribs, I love that they accomodate you. They offer 2 option of "fixins" with the meal but I have asked for subsitutions many times and they never have a problem and are happy to do so, eventhough the menu discourages it. Appetitizers!! You have to try their bulls eyes. This is something not found in any place I have been. They are sweet potatoes sliced and fried. Thicker than a potato chip and better. I always order their sampler with them or sometimes bulls eyes on the side on my ribs. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed. Pros: Pork Ribs, Appetitizers, service Cons: Not on my street corner more

Best sauce in town 6/17/2006

Best sauce in town. Crowded on weekends. Convienent location. Crummy side dishes. Servers are distracted. more

Best Ribs Ever! 11/18/2005

I love Back Forty Texas BBQ! They have the best pork ribs around. The staff is very friendly and the dining area has a down home feel. When orders are placed to go, they are ready very quickly. I have ordered many dinners (well over 20) from them and I have never had a incorrect or bad order. Pros: Lots of BBQ Sauce, friendly staff, Good parking Cons: No lunch baked potato more

This is REAL TX bbq, ya'll! 7/24/2005

I LOVE Back Forty! Dined there every other weekend with my husband and we had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. My husbands family is from TX and they were in heaven! I live in Houston now and haven't found any bbq here that is better!! more

just plain bad 7/24/2005

The barbeque is garbage. The famed pork ribs are tastelss, and don't seem to be prepared in a traditional way. They are also dry and require a lot of sauce to hide the over powering taste of the grill. The chicken seemed like it had been sitting out for a long time and possibly reheated as it was dry and oddly enough almost crumbly. That is no way for chicken to be. They did have a nice looking baked potato and some sweet potato chips for sides. Also, I hear the sandwhices were good. I can't believe this place is #1, it is pretty bad. Just don't get the barbeque I guess. Pros: quick service Cons: bad barbeque more

This place would be world class b-b-q if they would give real portions. 6/22/2005

The place is good, the meat is truely smoked for hours to achieve that b-b-q taste. But, I ordered the Combination plate, this comes with three types of meat and your choice of texas or california fixins. The meal runs $15.95, there was exactly three small slices of pork, three small slices of beef, and one small smoked link. Very tiny, my friends. I finished my meal in something like 5 minutes, not because I am a pig, but because there was so little food on the plate. If you order the early bird special, that is 11.95 and is really generous and has more food on the plate than the $15.95 Combo plate. Give it a try, the food is good so it makes you want more, but the plates are a tad stingy. PROS: good food CONS: not enough good food on the plate. more
