Great atmosphere, not to overdone. My husband and I have been many times...Sunday breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you make it for Sunday breakfast, which you should since it is served until 2:30, I recommend the grilled stickies. Nice twist on the traditional cinnamon buns. Lunch is a great deal, they have a "quickie" menu with several choices for right around 6 bucks. I always get the pulled pork and my husband gets the chicken pesto sandwich, both come with choice of soup, salad or fries. I always get the soup of the day...which have all been delicious and different every time. For dinner, most inportantly start with a Flirtini! My favorite is the salmon with forbidden rice and of course the "Big O" for dessert. more

3/4/08 - 7PM - The wife and I decided to try this place out for our 3 year anniversary. The food was excellent, however, the service lacked. The mixed drinks from the bar were very weak but cost $7. For the prices, I expected a bit better service than we received... and it wasn't even busy. After spending $120, I'm not so sure that I'd head back to this place. Not impressed. Pros: Food was great Cons: Lackluster service for the price, weak drinks/high prices more

Don't go for the food 8/18/2007

Tonight we went for a first night out in a long time. Romantic dinner type of thing. Service was good. Usually, when going to a place for the first time, we go early and try out several appetizers and try their wine, I guess we kind of judge a place on that. The server explained that their skirt steak starter was their signature dish. Terrible. The most fatty skirt steak I have ever eaten, actually didn't eat it after the first bite. They were served on two "potato cakes." didn't taste any potato, but their certainly were pancakes all soggy underneath the steak and sauted spinach. It was completely flavorless. Then we had a lobster salad. This salad was the size of a half dollar with a piece of lobster the size of a quarter. No kidding. Unbelievably ridiculous. Also ordered their warm frizee (sp?) salad with walnuts and blue cheese, upon recommendation as well...oh my goodness, I almost choked. It was slathered in this sweet dressing and not warmed, completely sauteed so that it was easy to choke on. We thought then, we would try their mussels...always something to judge a resturaunt on. Horrible. The white wine and garlic broth was like they dumped that yucky lemon pepper marinade from Fry's on it and then added more black pepper. Inedible! On the good note after spitting the first one out and choking down the second, we told the server and she was good enough to take off the bill. The wine and the sprite were perfect. The service was good. We did watch the manager go to every table but ours and ask how their meals were. This was before we realized that NOTHING was good. I guess we were singled out. Beautiful place with lots of potential. I am sure they have their own late night supporters, but the food is not the reason to go to this place. 98 South is extraordinarily over priced on top of it all. Their is a resturaunt in the same plaza called El Zocalo that I have heard from many is delicious. Pros: lovely spot Cons: terrible food. terrible terrible more

My hubby brought me here as a surprise this last week for my birthday. The live band was loud, fantastic jazz music. Things were looking GREAT! We ordered a bottle of Moscato D'Asti from their nicely prepped wine list. The food (eventually) showed up. When it did, it was very nicely prepared. We were unfortunately the victims of server neglect. While I hope my darling husband didn't tip her overly well I will say that the food was good. But honestly? I'd go to AJ's, buy the seafood fresh and make it with my cuter half. The ups were definitely the people watching experience and the overall atmosphere. I don't know that I'd spend that much to go back. It's a sad fact, one brush with a bad server (in a restaurant where you EXPECT great service) will turn you off an entire restaurant. In fact we made a bet with each other as to how long it would take the apparent floor manager to come over and ask us how our dinner was. Want to know the outcome? We watched him visit every other table EXCEPT ours. Not once in a 2.25 hour meal did he bother to even look at us. As a youngish successful (and decently dressed) couple, I felt a little discriminated against! Try it yourself, maybe we were just there on the wrong night!!! Pros: Great location, wine list, and live music! Cons: Servers, Hostesses, Manager, PARKING, too loud to be romantic more

My sister came into town for a visit and we went to 98South for dinner. The food was incredible! From the apple martinis, the port wine, the mouth-watering appetizers, to the main course and absolutely SINFUL desserts, we just couldn't stop ooowing and ooohhing. Everything was great! And we also loved the comfortable atmosphere and live jazz music. My sister hated to go back home, but I get to eat here anytime I want! Pros: Incredible Food, Great Wine Selection, Cozy Atmosphere Cons: None more
