I loved the atmosphere but just do not get these rave reviews. I had a pasta dish--the sauce was OVERLOADED with spices, as if they were making up for not knowing what to add by adding more of everything. Yech. And my husband didn't even finish his meal. Maybe it was a REALLY off day and we happened to order the two worst menu items but it was bad enough that we won't go back. We are far from food snobs but I'm finding the longer I live in NC the more I realize that the bar is not set very high here... more

After reading the citisearch reviews of nearly a dozen best of the best restaurants in chapel hill, my girlfriend and I visted the prospectable websights and easily decided on 411 west. Too many of the places we have eaten at have had moderate reviews and we have taken our chances and have been dissapointed. At 7:30 on a friday night, as many partys that were at once, we still recieved world class attention from our hostess and especially from our waiter. The food was perfectly seasoned. The steaks were cooked at the appropriate temperature and there are plenty of delecious vegatarian options. The quality of the waitstaff here is what I expect to find in the best of the best. They definately made the expierience worth while. I strongly recommend this restaurant! Pros: Superior waitstaff, Excellent food. Cons: I should have came here sooner. more

I visited 411 West with my wife the other day. It was the first time I've been in that restaurant and I had some expectations about it. The place is very well decorated, it has a nice patio...from my personal experience, the restaurant is good, the food was good, and a decent wine list. Everything was good, the only thing that really surprised me from that restaurant was the way the server was rushing my wife and I to order and during the time we were having the dinner. I completely understand the restaurant business, but servers have to understand that in order to obtain a good tip you have to do a good job and that can only be done by adapting and adjusting the serving skills to the necessities of the costumer. We eat here any time we're in Chapel Hill for the evening. The service is great and friendly. To be honest my wife and I always order ""the crab"", it is the best pasta dish I have eaten. It is so good I want to pick up my bowl and drink the sauce when I am finished. I have lived in the triangle for 5 years now after moving from Philly and this is by far my favorite dish out of all the restaurants I have eaten at, and I've tried them all on Franklin St. Pros: Wonderful food Cons: it's not free more

This has been our favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill since 1988. Never disappoints. Seafood specials are uniformly outstanding. We hope seafood enchilladas are on the menu every time we go. Fish and chips the other day was perfect - large portion of perfectly cooked cod and great fries - who could ask for more? Dill rolls are usually fluffy, worm and fresh. Pastas all taste homemade from the spaghetti in simple spaghetti and meatballs to the papperdelle with crab. Deserts are as beautiful as they are good. Service people are well trained and knowledgeable. 411 can get crowded for UNC games and events so we try and avoid those times. Regular menu offers lots of good choices including salads and pizzas but there's almost always something in the the weekly specials that we can't resist. Open for lunch and dinner Tues-Saturday, Dinner and I think brunch on Sunday. Pros: Specials are outstanding. Dill rolls warm and welcome. Service is freiendly and professional.
