The food is awesome. They have a great tuna tartare. However the service can be a bit slow. If you don't go when they are super busy its wonderful. Pros: null Cons: null more

Vive Le France, Not So Much 6/25/2011

Okay, so we made a big mistake, actually a couple of them. When we first arrived I saw long loaves of French bread being sliced for tables. ?Great?, I thought, ?This is a French restaurant, so that?s got to be good.? When placing our order my husband ordered the Crispy Veal Sweetbreads. Hmm, I thought, this is going to be a big carb-filled lunch, but I liked the creativity. more

Great Food, Service & Atmosphere 9/13/2009

This is a great restaurant for that special occassion to relax and ejoy your meal. I have eaten there several times over the last 3 years, the food has always been excellent and the staff wonderful. All of the ingredients in their food is obtained locally, be sure to try the special of the day at least once. The duck is superb! Make sure you allow enough time to relax and enjoy your meal. Thre is no obecity in France because they enjoy their food, and do not overeat or hurry and shove it down! If you want fast food, go to McDonald's! Pros: All food in dishes are locally obtained Cons: A Bit Pricey, But Worth It! more

Great Location. Awesome Ambiance. Good Food. 3/3/2009

Very cozy inside. Exposed brick and warm lighting. I would definitely make a reservation (if on weekend). The food was very good. I would highly recommend the mussels and the french onion soup. Pros: Everyone will enjoy themselves. more

Great Sushi, Great Mahi Mahi 2/13/2009

I visited 39 Rue on a Thursday after a long day of work and was really glad I did! I saw in other reviews great things about their sushi and decided to give it a shot (along with a recommendation by the person sitting next to me at the bar) for a starter. As I eat a lot of sushi, there was a noticeable freshness in the fish. Although the rolls weren?t the largest, they were still worth the $5 or so for a starter. I then chose the Mahi-Mahi for my entree which was also a great choice. It was really fresh and really thick (which I'm not used to for Mahi). Overall, it was a pretty upscale atmosphere with a pretty helpful staff. Next time I?m in town I need to come back to try out some other things I missed on the menu in my first visit. Pros: I also heard their hamburger's was good? Central Location Cons: not the cheepest, have fun finding parking more

Absolutely Terrible 4/1/2008

We made reservations 2 weeks in advance and received a confirmation call that morning for our 8:00 reservation. When we arrived, they had sat another table in our spot and insisted it was us. When I finally proved we were the party listed she didn't apologize or admit her mistake. Instead, she scrambled to find a table and stuck us in the bar area. We sat on three very small round two top tables (there were 7 of us!). The waiter was beyond mad! He came over and said in a 'i'm really busy and I hate that they stuck you in my section' tone "Whats up. What do you want to drink." Needless to say the bar is packed on a Saturday and the service was extremely slow. Pros: good looking customers Cons: the entire staff more

Completely Satisfied! 2/15/2007

After reading some of the other reviews I was a bit skeptical of this restaurant, however our experience turned out to be AMAZING! My boyfriend and I had dinner on a Friday night (reservations recommended). Our table was in a nice location and our waitress was very nice and extremely attentive. Our meals were fabulous! I have lived in France for a long time and the muscles I had were right on, as was the steak Roquefort my boyfriend ordered. We also had no problem finding the restaurant. It's actually located right off of King St. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a place with great food and atmosphere! Pros: Food and Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Rue de Confusion 9/2/2006

We started off our evening by sharing a drink at the bar. Note, you don't want to sit at these bistro tables for too long as the chairs are less than errrr....roomy. Cute looking, yes, comfortable, no! Pros: Nice design, cute ambiance, good location Cons: Value, wait staff, food average more

DON'T GO HERE!!!! 4/10/2006

Our waiter was an a##. He ignored our table, was rude when he did talk to us, got our check wrong, twice, and blamed it on us. When we went to the manager, he tried to blame it on us, too. We spent half an hour trying to straighten it out...and when he got a poor tip, followed our party out of the restaurant yelling. So much for Southern Hospitality, Charleston. Pros: nothing Cons: food, service, management more

A nice surprise... 1/12/2006

Perfect place for something different than your "lowcountry" cuisine! And I love my shrimp & grits!!! My date and I both tried the chef special...a first taste of duck breast for me...and I was not disappointed! The place was busy...but we were not overwhelmed. Our waitor took great care to help select a wine for the entree...and it was fabulous! It's been two weeks and I'm still thinking about that delicious creme brulet! After dinner we headed to the bar for more drinks....and the bartenders were more than attentive. The whole tab was a little pricey...but for a special occasion it is PERFECT! Pros: good parking, ambience, service Cons: not close to downtown more

decent alternative 9/8/2005

we were looking for an alternate to the seemingly endless supply of seafood places in charleston. french food has always been a culinary treat. despite the worn silver mirrors and brassere-feel (not badly done) this isnt balthazar. not close. it was decent. oysters and escargo were average. menu was somewhat limited, but not without enough options. service was attentive without being over the top. it was a bit of a hike from the heart of the old city though. especially in the humidity. busy bar scene (we ate at 8:30 on saturday) and most tables full. it was big enough to accomodate several large groups, yet we didnt feel dwarfed. probably $150 for 6 oysters, an appetizer, 4 drinks, 2 dinners and desert, tax and tip included. Pros: service, brasserie-atmosphere, size Cons: a bit out of the way more

Great! 2/21/2005

My wife and I went there Sunday last and thoroughly enjoyed the Bouillabaisse. Wait staff was excellent but very busy. more

Very Pastis 12/20/2004

Not only does Rue offer a tempting bar scene, the menu is very tantalizing as well. At first, I was skeptical of a restaurant that served steak frites and unagi rolls but much to my delight, they nailed both. This is a great place to mingle with locals while also enjoying a fun, hip place to eat before going out. Good sushi and bistro fare. Pros: Good menu, Above avg sushi more
