Schoebel's Restaurant is Located N off of I-10 near the Columbus, TX WalMart and HEB. Schoebel's is conveniently located W of Houston on your way to or from: San Antonio, Austin, Victoria, Corpus, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Houston, etc. Schoebel's can be seen from the freeway and is nestled beside a 200+ yr old live oak tree in a "Y" in the road.
This is my favorite destination from Katy for a relaxed family lunch or dinner (takes about 35 min). This German, Texas Restaurant has been owned by the same family for many years.
Schoebel's uses only the finest fresh farm ingredients. Fried chicken and chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken is some of the best in the South, hand battered and done to perfection after you order.
If you order the buffet or a dinner, your meal will come with the salad bar. The lettuce, vegetables, cheeses, ambrosia, potato salad, 3 bean salad and macaroni w/ tuna, ham or chicken salads are reminiscent of church potlucks growing up or foods served at holiday extended family gatherings. Salads (I normally do not prefer), melt in your mouth here. It is always a hard decision whether to just eat salad bar versus enjoying the buffet.
The buffet usually offers: 2 choices of homemade soup, 2 - 3 fresh vegetables with a potato or casserole plus a choice of 3 main entrées. The main entrées may include: fried chicken, chicken fried steak, fresh sliced ham, roast beef, lasagna, Mexican fare, fried or grilled fish, etc.dependent on the day of the week. Your meal also includes your choice of desserts such as slices of homemade pies, cakes, brownies, etc.
Schoebels is always busy but service is fast, extremely friendly and efficient. DO NOT be put off because you see 20 people in front of you on a weekend. You will usually be seated in 15-20 minutes AT MOST.

Schoebel's is a great place to take your picky eaters as the staff is very willing to assist quickly in anyway. They offer children's AND senior citizens portions listed on the menu. Sandwiches and burgers (lunch fare) is available all day/evening.
This was the only restaurant my son loved to eat at for many years! My spouse, who loves Mexican, spicy foods and really dislikes salad and vegetables raves about Schoebel's AND their salads! Generally, our family has a difficult time with meals:if 1 person likes something, another family member dislikes it! This makes it very difficult to please everyone yet Schoebel's is raved about by everyone!
Schoebel's also offers German, Tex/Czech bakery homemade breads and a recent addition kolaches and sweet rolls for sale near the cashier. These items are extremely good to take home too! If you happen to be on the road after 6:30am they are open for a wonderful breakfast too!
Note:while you enjoy your meal take a look around the restaurant at the beautiful photos taken by a Columbus portrait photographer. Her portrait work is some of the best in the South too! If you are wanting a very special picture taken of your family, graduate, etc consider booking with her as her work is exceptional; far superior to portrait, special occasion pictures done around the Houston area.
