The owners are skilled mechanics and you are dealing directly with them. They don't go on 'fishing expeditions' resulting in excessive and necessary costs to you--they practice the golden rule, fixing the problem at hand you brought the car in for, rather than intent on finding more problems to fix. They make recommendations for future service, but without pressure to make a decision at that moment.
