To be clear, this is a review of the 30- or 40-something J. Sheats II, and not his father, Jimmy Sheats. \r \r I went in for a root canal with Dr. Sheats (his father was highly recommended but I needed an emergency root canal and the senior Sheats was booked up). Before my visit and also at the beginning of my visit, I made it very clear that the tooth was VERY sensitive to cold, heat, and even light touch and air. It was obvious to me which tooth needed to be worked on and a dentist had also confirmed this. However, Sheats insisted upon no sedation and to ""see if this is the one that hurts...it will only take a second"" but putting ice directly on the exposed nerves. After I jumped up out of my seat from the pain, they then directly applied numbing gel and then air and cold water!!! I screamed from the pain - It was the most painful thing I've experienced, and I haven't had problems with dental work in the past. Needless to say, I was in so much pain that I couldn't go through with the root canal after just the ""testing""! They did not offer conscious sedation, IV's or oral sedation, and insisted I fast before even having nitrous, which is highly unusual in my experience. I'd explained I'd never had problems with nitrous before. Plus, their nitrous machine was falling apart and had tubes that kept popping out. It's possible they do good work if you're not already in pain, but I don't recommend them otherwise. Dr. Sheats asked, ""Now, why do you think you need pain medication?"" to which I replied, ""Because it hurts!"" Just say no to the ""just-say-no-to-drugs"" dentist! \r \r I'd give them a 1/2 star ONLY because the assistant had some empathy and was trying to be kind.
