Cafe con leche here is indeed delicious, but Cafe Tropical also serves my favorite morning pastries in L.A. These still-warm chocolate croissants are unparalleled, and a wedge of the guava-and-cream cheese pie is an authentic Cuban delight. There is plenty of seating inside, with tables large enough to spread out breakfast and a newspaper. Outside, there's a handful of ugly plastic chairs lining the curb. Save yourself from the exhaust fumes--stay inside if you'll be lingering.
