Review content:
On a birthday surprise weekend in Portland a friend and I stopped in Nob Hill Shoes (we live about 250 miles away). He made a significant purchase and I made a purchase as well (items that were packaged so they couldn't be tried on beforehand). Unfortunately the "one size fits all" items I purchased didn't fit me, it happens. We traveled back to the Nob Hill Shoes the next day and only then realized the [posted] store policy is a store credit, no refunds. We tried to appeal to the cashier that a store credit isn't something we could take advantage of as I have no idea when/if we'll get back to this area. She could only issue a store credit and indicated we'd have to speak to a manager on Monday. The next day, back home, I called to appeal to the manager/owner regarding a refund. She remained adamant that "this is the store policy and I can't [won't] change it". I was a bit taken aback by the patronizing attitude of the entire conversation, especially telling me "what, you're never coming back to Portland!?" as though that was a ridiculous statement on my part to say I didn't know when or if I'd be back in the area again any time soon. I got the sense this wasn't the first time the owner has had this conversation with someone from out of town. Bottom line is this, I have no product and Nob Hill Shoe Co. has the $$. Neither of the two employees I spoke with regarding sizing mentioned or pointed out the store policy to me ... that would have been a better service all around. So if you're from out of town, be really SURE that your purchase is EXACTLY what you want/expect. This was my first trip to Portland and I must say it put a damper on what was a truly nice weekend. Not recommended for out of town shoppers. Pros: Location Cons: Store return policy, not recommended for out of towners
