Review content:
My husband and I just returned from Maui where we completed our referral dives for PADI open water certification at this shop. Our experience was great. Our instructor Ryan was positive, friendly, experienced, and really loves what he does. He is an underwater photographer and takes shots of the dives, which is a great bonus if you want to have shots of yourself scuba'ing with the amazing sea life you will swim with!!! The shop is very professional and the dives were a great value compared to the bigger chain shops in the area. We were under water way more time than PADI requires for the certification, so by the time we did our last dive we'd already practiced all the skills and got to do what Ryan called a ""fun dive."" He was right: It was really fun. One thing to know is that the owner of Maui Diving Scuba Center was a Navy Seal. If you know anything about Navy Seals you know they have to be tough as nails. Well, he is. He has a VERY dry sense of humor, and will do anything to push your buttons. At first this was a turn off, but hey, we wanted our certification cards. Just know that once you get to know him a little you can tell he is a softy underneath his crabby shell. And he doesn't lead the dives so if you are uncomfortable with such dry humor you only have to deal with it for a few minutes and it's worth it. Pros: Enthusiastic instructor, lots of bottom time, photos of dive Cons: grumpy but cute owner
