As we stood in Kruger's doorway to shield ourselves from the cold at the Thanksgiving Day Parade, my 6 year old grandson saw the beautiful boxes displayed in Kruger's windows and stated how much his mother would love that "TREASURE BOX" for Christmas. TIme passed and on Christmas Eve, I said, "it's Christmas Eve, Matthew, aren't you excited?" He said "No" and started crying. He had not been able to buy the "TREASURE BOX" that he knew his mother would love for Christmas. I didn't have much cash that year, but when my grandson still remembered that box 5 weeks later and was sad because he wasn't able to "give" something so special - I was going to buy it any cost. Quickly we called to make sure Kruger's was open and they still had the beautiful jewelled boxes - they did. We rushed downtown as fast as we could, Matthew emptied his piggy bank on the way, I let him do is own talking and as he pulled his own money out of his pocket, I walked back across the store pulling out my own wallet to pay the difference when a "Kruger" held up his hand to stop me. He continued talking to Matthew as he counted out $1.27 total and together they wrapped up the box and Matthew finished his transaction. The actual price on the box was $65.00. This was the most beautful act of kindness and compassion I'd ever seen at Christmas. Matthew hugged his gift for his mother all the way home and carefully put it under the tree. It was his happiest Christmas ever. To be able to give his mom, the one he loved the most, the most beautful, jewelled, golden box ever was something Matthew will remember forever. This has become "Our Christmas Box Story". Thank you again, Mr. Kruger for a gift that keeps on giving and will never be forgotten.
