Review content:
Some time back I purchased a decoupage vase and I was told it was gilded with platimun leaf. I just recently discovered it is not platinum leaf, instead it is alimunum leaf. I am very upset because it was very expensive item. I have done some online research and found that Mr. Potter as well as the places he sells to say that his pieces are made with "gold and platinum leaf". Be careful, do a little research for yourself. Learn what real platinum looks like, it looks very different from aluminum. I consulted a gilding expert and got a great tip if you cannot tell. Precious metal leaf like gold and platinum come in 3.25" sq sheets and non precious metal leaf like fake gold, aluminum, copper and some silver come in 5.25" sq sheets. So, look at the seems where the individual sheets of leaf have been glued side by side on a piece. If it's real gold or platinum the seems will be about 3" apart, if it's fake gold or platinum the seems will appear to be about 5" apart, you'll be able to see the size of the leaf sheets used on a piece.
