Vet that cares........ 7/21/2005

Wiseman Animal Hospital has always treated us and our animals very well. Our pets have been going there for quite a while and we have never had any real complaints. Like any vet office, if your pet is VERY sick, it can get expensive quickly. We found this out a few years ago when our beloved Mudbug had her first run in with cancer. She had a tumor and it was completely removed by the vet that was there at the time. She was cancer free for nearly two years. Buggy unfortunately developed a completely different form of cancer this year that could not be treated effectively. She died in late January 2005. The vet who was here this time was different than the first one who performed Mudbug's previous surgery. (She was really great too. I received lots of communicationregarding the surgery. Phone calls with results were directly from this vet, not the staff. ) This time, when we first brought in Mudbug, some tests were done and we were given the news. We were offered some different options. The vet (Candice) was extremely kind, but very honest about the outcome of doing chemo, etc, etc. etc...............It wasn't going to be nice. We opted to make our "baby" as comfortable as possible and she spent another entire month with us at home. This vet completely respected our decision(s) and helped us. We were never, ever, "guilted" into extensive and costly treatments that would not have worked in the long run. The day we had to finally bring in Buggy because she had stopped eating was one of the most difficult of my life. I chose to stay with her once the decision was made to put her down. The vet let me take as much time with Mudbug as I needed, both before and afterward. Everything was explained to me and she was made very comfortable. It was difficult , to say the least, but there was respect all the way around. To sum it all up.........let me just say that I have never been shown so much love and compassion by a vet; for both my family and my dog. This gal even cried along with me. There were hugs and tears. A few days later, our family even received a sympathy note in the mail. Now, that said.........they are not perfect. I don't know what the going rate is for spaying, neutering and shots, but here it is WAY beyond what we could pay. We still get our pets spayed at the Humane Society or elsewhere. We did get some courses of shots at Wisemen because it was convenient at the time (Mudbug was being boarded, etc), however, shot clinics are truly the way to go. If you are looking for kind care for your animals, I would highly recommend this pet hospital. (NOTE: Unfortunately, I do not know if Candice Burton is still there. Mudbug died six months ago and we have not been back yet.) more
