The Carnegie Museum of Art is a world-class institution in Oakland. Not only does it have a spectacular entrance (the three-story wall of glass and steps), but it houses an impressive collection of works ranging from modern artists to the Old Masters. Admission is pretty reasonable, and it includes admission to both the art museum and the sizable museum of natural history. You'll find everything from Monet and Matisse to featured contemporary graphic designers and architects. Make sure to check out the Hall of Architecture and the Hall of Sculpture.
