a bakery attached to a restaurant, or a restaurant attached to a bakery? in any case, this place delivers decent hawaiian food, and good cakes for little birthday parties and the like. the laulau is very tasty, but the kalua pork is quite salty. the macaroni salad is again saltier than what i've had before, but it wasn't the end of the world. service is brisk, and portions are large.
the bakery is bright and filled with lots of tempting options. a coworker insists on their chocolate cake, but i wasn't impressed. for better hawaiian, there's back home in lahaina on PCH...

this bakery doesn't seem to have one bad product in its assortment. the madelines are lemony, the fruit tarts and merengues are light and heavenly, and the sticky buns (miniature bite size ones) are fantastic! you really can't eat just one.
add to that a great staff that is as personable as their pastries are delicious and its a winning combo.
even my father, who is not a fan of macaroons, couldn't keep away from the chocolate dipped versions from this place.
the merengues make great hostess gifts!

i went a few times based on glowing reviews from other sites and was not disappointed. la dijonnaise is a great little bistro with a friendly staff and great food. i wasn't expecting too much, but the portions were large and the quality was first rate. the desserts behind the glass case were so tempting, that even though we were all full from our meals, we had to try a few. but while i like this place a lot, the seating is a bit cramped. you're going to be pretty much elbow to elbow with other patrons so a quiet romantic dinner isn't as feasible.

i would hear the raves about this bakery and think, what's the big deal? and then i had the cream cheese pastry and was swayed. flaky and crispy with this lovely creamy filling swirling in my mouth. i had to restrain myself from being a hog and just stuffing these down my shirt so i wouldn't have to share with anyone else (i was at a party, and i didn't bring these little gems). i just wished i was closer to glendale so it wouldn't be so painful to get more of these.

i can see from a business point of view why you would charge each person not just a two drink minimum, but also a cover charge to make enough money on each table, but it does get pricey pretty fast. nevertheless, my friends and i had a really great time. the place is super crowded, but we were seated pretty fast and had great service the whole night. the music was great, the place really dim, and it feels like one big happy love in.
i'd definitely choose indoor seating (the vip room upstairs is ideal) over the outside space- too many passersby outside.

from the moment we walked in, to the final presentation of our bill, the service was so good. granted, it was a weeknight, and the place didn't have too many diners there, but i was still pretty happy with our attentive waiter. the food was great. the complimentary bread was warm and special- a sign of a great restaurant when they care about the bread like that. the food was simple and flavorful and even the presentation was lovely. great for a quiet dinner.

don't know what happened, but service is not up to par anymore. booked a service for myself and my mother for a haircut. we were supposed to be scheduled with two of their regular stylists. when we get there (on time, mind you) we have to wait fifteen minutes. not really a problem, its a saturday afternoon and i can see that they were busy. my mother gets the correct stylist, but i still have to wait. i see her finishing up with her client, so i think, 'great, not much more time to wait'. and then she walks over... to take another client. WHAT??? so i figure that she might have been backed up, but the staff said nothing to me. then another girl calls on me to get my hair washed. it wasn't until after the wash that i realize that this was the person that was going to cut my hair! she was the new talent, meaning that she wasn't established there yet (and in my opinion, not as experienced). her cut was not at the level i expected of this place.
before, when i would go here, they offered two "sensory treatments" complimentary with a haircut. there was no mention of any change or anything, so when my stylist asked what i wanted, i told her i wanted a facial and a hand massage. she told me that they only give one treatment now as it was the new policy. huh? my facial was just a step above an impatient mother wiping her very messy kid's face off. and i've had good facials here- even great!
when i was asking her opinions on how to cut my bangs, she sounded unsure and not very creative. then, when she lopped off my bangs (way too short, i guess she was taking too long with me) she actually tried to style my hair WITH bobby pins, saying that these were her saving grace. WHAT? i go to a hair salon to make my hair look good WITHOUT accessories or doodah.
totally disappointed with the service, totally unhappy with my hair. at least sonja did a great job with my mother's hair. i will never go back here, nor will i ever recommend anyone here again. this place has gone downhill.

or any other afternoon, for that matter. there's lots of reading material for your reading pleasure, and the coffee and treats are wonderful. its a great place to just hang out and soak up some atmosphere, or sit in a stuffed chair to savor the coffee and collect your thoughts. the live music sometimes gets a bit raucous, but it just adds to the variety.

never heard of bodega chocolates before, but since i was in a chocolate kind of mood, i bought a little truffle bar. and then i bought the rest of the flavors. those things are evil! they're rich, and the flavors are deep and intense. the dulce de leche truffle bar is so silky, and the small little portion is great quick chocolate fix.
