Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon and Spa has truly set the standard for spas. Their flagship location on Fifth Avenue is exceptional. Their technicians and staff are utterly professional.
i've tried them for a number of services -- pedicure (to die for), styling (excellent), facials (the best of the best), and massage (supreme relaxation).
the prices are high, but it's worth it to splurge on a half day package.

the technicians are friendly and professional and competent. prices are not out of this world. again, there's nothing extra special about this place, but it does the basics well.

this spa falls more into the clinic category. it is not the place to go for a relaxing treatment or facial. that said, you will definitely notice a difference in your skin when you leave.
the technicians are impersonal (read: very clinical), but professional. key though is the consultation they do to evaluate what procedure or treatment would be best for you.
also, they have great products that keep the effect of the treatment going.
note of caution: they require a credit card to hold the reservation -- and they will charge you if you don't show.

they offer a wide range of treatment options and the products are to die for. the prices are a bit high -- even for new york, but what price can you put on bliss?

this is a great place to bring visitors or have a business meeting for lunch -- though make sure the person eats seafood -- they have a rather limited non-seafood selection.
my favorite is the crab cakes, which they only have on wednesdays. but all the staples are on their menu and done to perfection -- fish and chips, clam chowder, grilled fish caught daily. take your pick -- you won't be disappointed!

as for the food, what's not to love, especially when enjoying an authentic caipirinha :) my favorite is the chicken in hearts of palm sauce. follow dinner with a cafezinho.

this charming restaurant in the flatiron district will satisfy anyone's craving for pizza or italian. i came across it after escaping the wait at gramercy tavern just down the street and have been back several times since.
the pizza is the best in new york, in my opinion. their wood-burning oven makes all the difference. their wine list is reasonable. and saving room for tiramisu is a must!

the food is wonderfully flavorful (the spicy calamari one of my favorites). the dessert menu doesn't really have any must-indulge items.
in the summer enjoy eating al fresco
