Jim & Nick's is one of Birmingham's main BBQ restaurants. The restaurant on 11th Ave South has a classy decor, all polished wood and nice muted colors, compared to most BBQ's in town. So while serving the basics, it has a slightly upscale feel. The other thing to note is that the restaurant is big, and can seat a lot of people. This translates into minimal wait-times every time my family has gone there to eat.
Foodwise, they offer a standard range of spare ribs, and barbecue chicken. They have some nontraditional dishes like burgers, grilled chicken and catfish. They are nice with kids, giving them baloons, crayons and a menu they can color on.
The meat is tende and well-done. Their Barbecue sauce is nice, not the most distinctive, but pretty pleasant and not just sugary syrup stuff that some places serve.
The waitstaff are generally natural/friendly and very considerate. They will correct anything that you don't like readily.
Overall this is a very pleasant restaurant, not quite the most distinctive in any respect, but an enjoyable place to have family dinner.
